Wolf’s grading system was used for this draft. According to Ryan Cowden Patriot scouts had spent 18 months scouting and analyzing the prospects for this draft, and Vrabel’s team came in with 3 months to go in that process. However that 3 months are the most important months in the process. And @Ross12 has it right that the process for Wolf worked much better in tandem with Vrabel, Cowden, and Streicher than it did with Mayo, as they were able to articulate the culture they wanted to create, and the types of players they wanted to bring in to create that culture. And Vrabel ultimately gets the credit for this draft in that he led the decision making.
And I wonder if part of that culture was moving on from players from the "old" regime like Cardona. Got to give him a few drafts to see if it really is working or if this was an anomaly.
What is working is that this looks like an NFL offense unlike last year.
Red zone (2/4), no turnovers and third down conversions (12/20) stood out to me and until the end, very few drive killing penalties. That all comes down to coaching.

I think they can repeat this offseason because they have real clarity on the types of players/people they are bringing into the organization, and they aren’t wasting time and resources on guys who won’t fit their playing style or team culture.

patriots backups stand out against vikings backups.
That’s the kind of commentary I really don’t understand even though I see it all over the place. A backup player dominates other backup players. Okay, and…? Isn’t that exactly what you want? These guys aren’t competing to start right now, they’re competing for a depth role. Dominating backups means that if they get called upon to replace a starter due to injury or otherwise, they’re likely able to be at least solid.

We’re also talking about “the backups” of a top team in the NFL. Their backups are probably close to starters elsewhere. The Pats aren’t playing the Minnesota Vikings each week, they’ll be playing a lot of bad teams.

He played well, but his arms really do look really short compared to everyone else, and I noticed that he was often the only OL in a 2-point stance.
Arms don't reach the ground?...

Minnesota played almost exclusively 2-high safeties. They were either really vanilla or were thinking their pass rush was going to get home (it never really did). But that's why everything was underneath or to the sidelines.

I don’t get them sitting McCarthy? He sat out his rookie season on IR, and that was their most obvious chance to get him playing time before the season starts, as next week pretty much every team goes with the true scrubs. I fully expect him to play in bubble wrap for his entire career.

Are the Robinson's injured? Wallace?

I would like but the boys are saying he got owned in joint practices... I didn't see it but I'm nervous. I'm more nervous about Drake spraying the ball all over the place...not accurate and throwing hospital balls.

WR depth chart

X: Hollins, Boutte
Z: Diggs, Williams
F: Douglas, Chism

There's some interoperability there - the guys who play X might play Z sometimes, and the guys who play Z might play X or F sometimes - but this is kind of how it looks if you bucket them in "primary" spots. The slot guys are probably pure slots for the most part, but maybe they see time at Z every so often.

Also intrigued by the idea of 2 TE sets, with Henderson in the backfield, and Hollins plus Diggs or Boutte outside. You can send all 5 out on a route or you can have them all block for Henderson on a pure run play without any substitutions.

I also think WR John Jiles has shown some good stuff. He threw a key block on Chism's big TD play. Hope they keep him on the PS to keep developing.

It’s lose lose. If they play great they are just beating up on back ups, if they play poorly they can’t even beat the back ups. Bottom line, you can only play against the guys the other teams puts out there, so beat them all up.

1,000 times YES. I can't imagine a scenario disastrous enough where that doesn't happen. The fact nobody will hire Josh as OC is the reason it was a great hire. If you are not hiring an Andy Reid/Ben Johnson OC guru as head coach you need an OC that will stick around for 5 years.

I think MacDaniels will wait until his kids are out of school before taking another head coaching job, unless it is for B.C. And it will be college head coaching job he leaves for.
