love the softballs from Dan Roche and Mike Reiss...throw in Steve Burton for the trifecta

Onwenu is a free agent. We need to sign him or replace him. We must presume that the replacement is Mafi or Sow.

Obviously, we are keeping Andrews and Andrews (center and backup center).
Strange has been OK
Sow has shown little
Mafi has shown less

Yes, Strange, Andrews and 3 mid-level draft picks may be enough., or not. Are there any any future all=pro's here? How many of these are above average OL's. I have no confidence building out future around these interior OL. But, of course, that isn't the whole problem, is it. We need THREE OT's. Belichick did made a reasonable effort at improving the interior of the OL.
We have the money to sign Onwenu.

We don't know much about Sow and Mafi because they're rookies, but in any case, they should be backups behind Strange and Onwenu

I just went by the timer on the video, the play starts at 0:01 and he's hitting Mac with 0:03 on the clock lol
I did not see that but can't argue lol. It just feels longer than 2 seconds.

I don't know how anyone in here can't look at the offensive line as the biggest problem. That moment with Malik Cunningham shows that it doesn't matter even if you're Usain Bolt, you can't extend plays or get away from guys running Vederian Lowe or Trent Brown over.
Totally agree. Bottom line this team started their downward spiral after Scar retired. He had a plethora of guys that weren’t “NFL” caliber guys. Somehow he pulled it together …

He's an average guy, he's certainly not an average QB which is what I think you meant here. I'm not sure how many people here are accepting Mac for who he is at this point. I can't believe you are back to this game again.
Whatever, man. Again, you hate the guy, and that's cool. I know you disagree, but good to average is all there is unless great happens to come along, and when he does you enjoy the ride. Otherwise, everyone in the league would go get one.

But you don't need me to tell you that. "It is what it is."

I think at this point. Good, bad or whatever… I think this team needs a reset. This unit is broken. Mac may end up an average qb but I’m not sure if it will be here

For the people that think he'd go to LA. The LA media would not be throwing up softballs.

I didn't say "he's the guy" - you're missing the point. The point is, it's Week 6, and "the guy" may not be available for 1-2 years, or longer. Jones can be adequate enough to be what they need to buy them time to find the guy. Because they don't have a better option on the roster, unless Grier is any better at outrunning defensive lineman.
I mean if the objective is tanking, I'm sure running Mac Jones out there the rest of the year is going to achieve the objective just about as well as Cunningham or Grier. It's not going to give us any better results. But sounds like you've thrown up the white flag at this point.

I do agree that in terms of getting more wins, it's unlikely we have anyone on the roster who can achieve some kind of miracle turnaround. But isn't it time to figure out who we've got if the results aren't going to change regardless of who we plug in to replace Mac Jones?

Are you of the opinion that Mac Jones can still somehow "right the ship" by giving him the rest of the season to sink or swim, or as is the case so far continue to drown, or is it just more of a stick with the devil you know even if he isn't taking you anywhere?

LOL, oh my God, remind me not to take you seriously ever again.

Especially your take that with 1:50 left in a game a team shouldn't throw in the middle of the field. PLEASE
Again I asked you to show me 5 current QB's who made proved they could make the playoffs with offenses as bad as this. You listed 4 guys who never made the playoffs without an All Pro pass catcher and one guy who could only make it once with Allen and Ekeler lol. You are incapable of admitting that you had no basis in fact or reality on the stupid point you are making so you are going to platitudes.

So I'm really the one who shouldn't take you seriously. You just flat out were not capable of naming 5 QB's that ever made the playoffs with offenses as bad as this. GET OVER IT.

Also NEWSLASH throwing to 11 on 3rd down when you had no timeouts and needed to drive down the field and would have only brought up 4th down was a stupid play. There was one correct move there. A throwaway. That perserves the clock for you to maybe get a 4th down conversion losing less time still needing to drive abot 60 yards.

Unfortunately, the line collapsed and once it did there were 3 guys all over him.

Bob has to pull the plug after this season. Even if they land a top QB in draft, it's not a guarantee he will be any good. But if he is, it will still take 2-3 years at minimum before they are a contender again.

Its one of our most important offseasons. Loads of cap space and most likely a top 5 pick. We are a couple years away at the least but very good chance to start building the foundation. Hope Kraft has a good plan in mind for gm, we cant afford to botch this one

Mac Jones (Overall):
24/33 (72.7%) 200yds 1 INT

Mac Jones in the second half:
16/19 (84.2%) 103yds

Mac Jones 4th Quarter Stats:
11/13 (84.6%) 69yds
Mac got better as the game went on. If Parker catches that ball, Mac has great numbers. Mac got the ball out on time. Did he turn a corner or will he implode again next week? He earned another chance.

They need to take the keys away from Bill. Otherwise a defensive pick or a trade down for 100 7th rounders incoming.

Ok, since you didn't like the first answer, I'll say this.

I believe he's a guy who can win 10+ games and potentially be a guy who can win games in the postseason. I mean, we saw it in year one before they blew everything up here.

The book on him coming out of Alabama was the fact he didn't have the best arm, but he was smart and when given time and adequate weapons, he can be successful. Aside from year one, he hasn't had it since.

Shanahan has already proven he can do that there, and he's even done it with Garoppolo, which sort of speaks volumes given how he's looked in Las Vegas. In San Francisco, they have a stable offensive line and an incredibly stacked group of players, so unlike here, he'd have someone to throw to in critical situations.

Last year, that was Meyers. He led this team in dramatic fashion in third down receptions the last two seasons (look at the stat pages from 2021 and 2022). Jones literally doesn't have anyone he can look to consistently. Neither did Zappe, which is why both have struggled. They don't have anyone right now who can they can consistently count on to go to third down right now. San Francisco has that.

People are talking about the fact Zappe hasn't gotten a fair shake but all that's happened is he hasn't had to spend 60 minutes running for his life yet. The results are what they are not because he completely forgot how to play quarterback.

So do I believe Mac would be better there? Absolutely. And my fear here is that the blame is going to continue to be placed primarily on the quarterback instead of where it should go, and we're going to watch an extension of what's happening right now with someone else because they're also not going to bring in any serious help at receiver, even probably this offseason.

Again, I don't care about Mac. I care about what we're in for. Anyone who has watched this team well before Brady got here (or even Bledsoe) has already lived it. They're in step one of trying to find the next Brady. But you at least need to be able to live with OK to average until that happens. Because both "great" and "elite" are rare.
Thank you for your insight

Ive always seen Shanahan as QB whisperer, and to be honest I wasnt even considering this as an factor in this fake scenario... Because for sure, it changes things a bit. IF Mac could have a better continuity coming out of a good first season, yeah, this whole debate wouldn't happen for sure.

Keeping true to my thoughts, though, my point is that I just see Mac failing at the part that he was supposedly good: hist mental. He clearly has not grasped NFL speed, to me. So I was going to say that even at the 49ers, sure, I do think they would be good enough to get the post season, but I think Mac would still give games away, either by "trying to do too much" or not being methodical enough, quick enough to make good decisions. But with Shanahan working with him, this isnt as probable

I do agree with your later half tho: Mac is not the main problem and the whole offensive unit is a mess for many many reasons

I can’t honestly say what I would do.
But many Patriot fans would one way or another disappear

My confidence has absolutely dropped when it comes to Jones, and I'm over it. At the same time, I'm realistic enough to know that we need someone who can at least be competitive and do what happened in 2021. Three years in, I've seen enough to know that he's got a ceiling and "it is what it is."

The only thing I'll say is this. The Jets built up their offensive line and Zach Wilson beat the Eagles today largely thanks to the personnel they brought in to help out Rodgers. That's a reminder of just how bad things are here right now, and it's certainly disturbing that even Wilson is that productive with more talent.

Jones can be adequate enough to be what they need to buy them time to find the guy.
If we kept Hoyer, Mac wouldn’t be the best QB on the roster. No need to quibble about where in the pile of mediocrity he falls, but unless he can compete against playoff teams, he is part of the problem not part of the solution.

Worst Pats team in 30 years and they won't even get the first pick in the draft. Can't even win at losing. Brutal
