Tell us about Jones' injury, and we'll give you a more informed answer. But, while waiting on that info, let's just say that even reasonable people should at least be noticing cracks in the sky.
The difference being that most kids in the NFL break at the QB position with said "throw em to the wolves" experience. Whether too many interceptions, too many hits, etc their confidence is destroyed and unable to be built back. It's the rare few that can go through that significant adversity and continuously improve.
I feel like that is part of the problem. I have no confidence in any of these coaches. Patricia, Judge, and STEVE f-ing Bellichick. The players are pretty good though.

It entirely depends on perception and expectations. I think most reasonable takes would have said that talent wise we took a step back after the draft and free agency and lost more than we gained and that the coaching situation was already questionable. So this was about as expected.
The line is a weak link, the receivers are still a weak link, we have no consistency at TE which is a weak link (and a particularly sad one since we just got eviscerated by Andrews from the Ravens), the secondary is also a weak link.
The team in general is very flawed. This team isn't fixed by just one thing. Like yeah theoretically you could Brady or Rodgers on here and we maybe become a decent ish team (like 2019 levels) but that's just a big bandaid and a pretty unrealistic fix. There's a lot to work on

This is gonna sound real dumb but I think the Pats have a better chance to knock off the Packers next week with Hoyer than Mac. Not because Hoyer is better but Mac before the injury was CLEARLY having issues dealing with the new offense and coaching and who the hell knows what. Hoyer is extremely limited and yeah can throw up on himself but he won’t be intimidated by a road game in Lambeau and the Pats can give Rodgers issues on defense and a clock control offense.

Of course. But I expect he will see some opportunities late in games that are out of reach. I think an underlying issue is that the QB is the most important position on the field, and Mac represents hope for the future, whenever that might be. It is harder to find a reason to watch a mediocre team with Hoyer at QB when neither he nor the team are going anywhere.

Current line for next week is Packers (-6.0). It opened at (-5.0) so not much movement thus far. Perhaps the perception is that Mac to Hoyer is not exactly a game changer.
We'll see where it goes. I could see it going above 7 though.
At his salary ($20m+ per yr) the only way he leaves on his terms is if he wins. The Krafts aren't gonna pay him $100m over the next 4 to 5 years for mediocracy. They can pay someone a 1/4 of that for mediocracy.
I cannot find the current number of years in the contract he signed. If it's just one, then you're correct - if not the Krafts can't just "stop" paying him. Like Patricia they're on the hook for his salary...so it's not just a mediocrity decision - it's can they improve on that mediocrity with someone else AND while still paying.
There's a reason the Krafts are worth as much as they are, and making rash business decisions like that one probably isn't on they'll do willy nilly either. They set the precedent when Carroll was here - three straight years of declining records is when the conversation likely begins in earnest.
Not that BB wouldn't have won multiple SB's with another QB, because he would have. But 6 SB's got to his head to the point that nepotism wins out in the end
Exactly. Not one team in the NFL would employ Steve B other than handing out towels in the locker room. Yet there he is making all Defensive calls and adjustments. And Judge/Patricia? In way way way over their heads.
Smith's mediocrity has spanned multiple coaches, multiple OCs and multiple teams. I've got my issues with this current NEP coaching staff, but let's not blame it for Jonnu.
