Can someone find a picture of the hit that caused the Agholor fumble? I watched it several times on the DVR and it looked like there was some helmet contact but the camera angle wasn't good and they didn't show any reverse-angle replays... or any replays for that matter.

I can live with the 3rd and 3 conceptually, because I have to believe it was a call that Mac made after seeing the defense. If he got a look that made him think they could catch the D for 3 on the ground, I'm okay with that philosophy, even if the results on that play weren't good. If you always pass on 3rd down, defenses will key on that.
I hear you and if it was Harris or Rham, I would have been better with the call, don't like our 3rd down back getting the touch there. I might be knit picking, but I'd rather have our top two backs running the ball.

Painful to watch but these are the plays that are the difference between winning and losing: I'm still not sure, was it Brown's fault? I am kind of leaning toward Mac but I'm not Dante. lol I know there needs to be better communication though.

Maybe both their faults.

Mac didn't look once to his left and adjust protection.

Ferentz and Brown looked to double the end.

Ferentz though set up way back and Brown got caught with a DB blitz from way outside.

If anything, Henry should have chipped him right there since the play was clearly to the right.

Mac never looked left once before or after the snap. So Henry was doing nothing out there.

It was a failure all the way around with Henry, Brown and especially Mac Jones to blame.

The

Agree on 3rd and 3 Montgomery.

The 2nd and long run has worked a lot in the past. If you get 8 or 9 yards there, you have 3rd and long rather than 3rd and forever.
Interesting, I never remember that 2nd and long ever working. I'll take your word on it though. I always think of the draw to James White that got stuffed for no gain and the GDT going insane.

I've come in late to this thread, so forgive me if this already been discussed/answered: There was a play where a Dolphin was called down before the ball came out, where the ball was lodged loose with only the crown of the player's head touching the ground. Is the head considered down in the NFL? He was basically upside down, so nothing else was touching yet. I thought at that time of the game it would have been worth challenging, but I don't know that part of the rule.
head is considered down

The sad thing is that this defense used to be in past years an opportunistic defense that created a lot of turnovers. In the first dynasty era, it was the calling card of the defense. We really haven't seen that as much in recent years.
Yeah agree Rob, the one big chance that I remember was the Myles Bryant missed interception which would have been a big play.

I always think we're going to run on 2nd and 15+ because of the Faulk, Woodhead, Vereen years. You may be right about White though.

I can respect that. I honestly thought that kind of situation was going to be Stevenson's role in general: a down and distance where run or pass was equally likely. All stuff they're probably still working out.

This is what people mean (well, most people, not the ones who are insane) when they say that September is an extension of the preseason. It's not that the games don't matter or the team doesn't care if they win them. Just that there are players in roles that, to this point, have been conceptual in nature. Maybe that play worked a ton with Montgomery in practice, but they need to see if succeed (or fail) in real games before they know if they have something or not.

Also, Jack Jones on Tyreek Hill. Tua laid that one up as well.

That's a play that I think Jack Jones makes in year 2 or 3 once he's built up some NFL strength. He was in position but Hill just outmuscled him. It actually encourages me because that's something he can improve pretty easily with training, whereas the ability to even be there with Hill is more innate.

I could be wrong but I think those are on the qb. They have the best view of the field pre snap and should be making the adjustment imo

I thought they had chances yesterday. Multiple balls should have been picked. Some fumbles by the Phins too recovered by Phins.

Kind of reminds me of that stat that came out during deflategate which showed the Patriots fumbled as much as other teams, but ended up recovering more balls than other teams.

Yeah, there is still time for them to pull it together and be more opportunistic. Unfortunately, they haven't been thus far.

And all the bounces went the Dolphins way from the first INT in the end zone to the end of the game.

Just watched the extended highlights of the game. As is usually the case, after a little bit to cool off and upon re-watching, things aren't as bad as they seem.

Before anyone jumps, yes I know you really can't do this. But if you take away the strip sack fumble returned for a TD and the 4th and 7 play at the end of the half. the score would have been 7-6. This game literally came down to two plays.

The entire "two plays" narrative is built on nonsensical projection. The game was over at halftime.

I appreciate Phil Perry, but he's got it wrong this time. There is no way the blitzing safety is Browns guy since the DE is actually lined up on Henry's outside shoulder and the Safety is outside that.. Unless the proper move for Brown is to slide behind Henry and try to square up, but that is a longshot, in my honest opinion. @patfanken will probably have some insight.

That is Henry's man to chip and Henry let's him slide by untouched.

The Pats scored more points in freezing gale winds in Buffalo last December than they did yesterday.

I'd like to think they are a whole lot better than the worst offense in the league.
You'd get a banner to hang for that in Indy

the team is pretty snake bitten against Miami. The last 3 games have been quite even tbh but these plays like myles bryant knocking an easy pick from dmc and the no call on the dpi swinging the momentum early all have seemed to go in miami’s favor. And they have made the “got to have “ plays when theyve needed to which you do have to tip the cap while we have kinda faded in the clutch. But id imagine the statistical breakdowns are pretty even besides the turnovers, actually in last years games we OUTgained them pretty good. Kinda like our games with nyg from 07-11.

Thanks for the clarification J!!!!

100% this. The DB on Mac's left was lined up close to line of scrimmage with no one on him and no coverage responsibilities. Ideally MAC should look in both directions as part of pre snap reads and audible out or change who he is throwing to if he sees that type of blitz coming. Good defensive play call. This is an example of what Brady or a veteran can give you. I am pretty sure Brady would have seen that and adjusted.
