It's easy, and only takes a few moments.I hear you and if it was Harris or Rham, I would have been better with the call, don't like our 3rd down back getting the touch there. I might be knit picking, but I'd rather have our top two backs running the ball.I can live with the 3rd and 3 conceptually, because I have to believe it was a call that Mac made after seeing the defense. If he got a look that made him think they could catch the D for 3 on the ground, I'm okay with that philosophy, even if the results on that play weren't good. If you always pass on 3rd down, defenses will key on that.
Painful to watch but these are the plays that are the difference between winning and losing: I'm still not sure, was it Brown's fault? I am kind of leaning toward Mac but I'm not Dante. lol I know there needs to be better communication though.
Interesting, I never remember that 2nd and long ever working. I'll take your word on it though. I always think of the draw to James White that got stuffed for no gain and the GDT going insane. The
Agree on 3rd and 3 Montgomery.
The 2nd and long run has worked a lot in the past. If you get 8 or 9 yards there, you have 3rd and long rather than 3rd and forever.
head is considered downI've come in late to this thread, so forgive me if this already been discussed/answered: There was a play where a Dolphin was called down before the ball came out, where the ball was lodged loose with only the crown of the player's head touching the ground. Is the head considered down in the NFL? He was basically upside down, so nothing else was touching yet. I thought at that time of the game it would have been worth challenging, but I don't know that part of the rule.
Yeah agree Rob, the one big chance that I remember was the Myles Bryant missed interception which would have been a big play. The sad thing is that this defense used to be in past years an opportunistic defense that created a lot of turnovers. In the first dynasty era, it was the calling card of the defense. We really haven't seen that as much in recent years.
I always think we're going to run on 2nd and 15+ because of the Faulk, Woodhead, Vereen years. You may be right about White though.Interesting, I never remember that 2nd and long ever working. Also, Jack Jones on Tyreek Hill. Tua laid that one up as well.Yeah agree Rob, the one big chance that I remember was the Myles Bryant missed interception which would have been a big play.

That's a good one upstarter, forgot about that one!!!Also, Jack Jones on Tyreek Hill. Tua laid that one up as well.
I thought they had chances yesterday. Multiple balls should have been picked. Some fumbles by the Phins too recovered by Phins.
Kind of reminds me of that stat that came out during deflategate which showed the Patriots fumbled as much as other teams, but ended up recovering more balls than other teams.
Just watched the extended highlights of the game. As is usually the case, after a little bit to cool off and upon re-watching, things aren't as bad as they seem.
Before anyone jumps, yes I know you really can't do this. But if you take away the strip sack fumble returned for a TD and the 4th and 7 play at the end of the half. the score would have been 7-6. This game literally came down to two plays.

You'd get a banner to hang for that in IndyThe Pats scored more points in freezing gale winds in Buffalo last December than they did yesterday.
I'd like to think they are a whole lot better than the worst offense in the league.

Thanks for the clarification J!!!!I appreciate Phil Perry, but he's got it wrong this time. There is no way the blitzing safety is Browns guy since the DE is actually lined up on Henry's outside shoulder and the Safety is outside that.. Unless the proper move for Brown is to slide behind Henry and try to square up, but that is a longshot, in my honest opinion. @patfanken will probably have some insight.
That is Henry's man to chip and Henry let's him slide by untouched.
100% this. The DB on Mac's left was lined up close to line of scrimmage with no one on him and no coverage responsibilities. Ideally MAC should look in both directions as part of pre snap reads and audible out or change who he is throwing to if he sees that type of blitz coming. Good defensive play call. This is an example of what Brady or a veteran can give you. I am pretty sure Brady would have seen that and adjusted.Maybe both their faults.
Mac didn't look once to his left and adjust protection.
Ferentz and Brown looked to double the end.
Ferentz though set up way back and Brown got caught with a DB blitz from way outside.
If anything, Henry should have chipped him right there since the play was clearly to the right.
Mac never looked left once before or after the snap. So Henry was doing nothing out there.
It was a failure all the way around with Henry, Brown and especially Mac Jones to blame.
