I feel like the only way Bill gets shown the door is if he decides to marry himself to Patricia staying. Even then I think Kraft would be too gun shy and give it another year
This was an absolutely embarrassing end to a very embarrassing season and today’s game really demonstrated why Bill Belichick should no longer be in charge of the New England Patriots.
His coaching decisions/appointments this year are probably some of the worst coaching moves in NFL history…… he is always trying to outthink the room…..and when Brady was here he got away with it…..Brady made him look like a genius. As soon as Brady left… Bill came back to earth. What he did this year was some of the dumbest coaching decisions ever, and his lack of adjustments (punter, KO, ST and other whiffs) was glaring.
There is so much material to grab from here that it’s overwhelming. Only good news about Miami beating the Jets (let’s be honest….everyone saw that coming……even with a nothing QB)….is that they will most likely be out of the running for Sean Payton. It is time for a change here and Payton would be a brilliant move for this team going forward.
I think we can safely say he was drafted too early. We were told he was a late second early third rounder tops based on his elite athleticism. But needs more strength dealing with the bill rush. And he played inconsistently.
Obviously there’s no way that was the actual plan, but if McVay is out of LA, it’s definitely worth exploring. At the very least, just so the Krafts can establish a relationship with him such that when he’s ready to coach again and BB is ready to retire, they can pounce. And if he actually on board with that succession plan? Jump on it now.
I could certainly see him looking at the Rams situation and saying "all of our draft picks are gone, Stafford is brittle, and my owner is an A-hole that everyone hates. This place sucks, how do I get outta here?" Then he has an auspicious conversation with Mr. Kraft about how they need an OC and that Bill only has a couple of years left. Suddenly McVay is talking about wanting a "work life balance" or whatever and stepping away...
Just not sure how it works out contractually since he's under contract for 4 more years in LA. Would he need to retire, be replaced, then un-retire and go elsewhere? Seems a bit messy.
the silver lining ( I hope) is that this is the end of Patricia, Agholor and Junno. Parker, Bourne, Henry and hopefully Meyers will be the strength of this team going forward, we need to add a true playmaker on the O and with our running backs we can do some damage next year. If we get a true offensive coach, Mac might do well next year but if not we have to move on from him after year 3
Per overthecap, will cost the team an additional 1.655m in cap space if they cut Jonnu because of the restructuring they did in training camp. Clearly the worst contractual move they made this offseason. He was the wrong guy to restructure - you restructure a player who is doing well and you expect to be there in 2023. All they had was a terrible 2021 and a “promising” 2022 camp. Ugh. Probably worthwhile to keep him through 2023 training camp and deal with the situation then.
That’s how you can sort out the good ones - if they can play 0.500 with crap at the position. I always thought John Harbaugh was a good coach, as he was able to be consistently successful with Joe Flacco. Lamar takes off, and suddenly they have the best record in the conference.
My post was not meant to disrespect Payton. It was just to say the problem isn’t with Belichick’s coaching at the moment.
I don’t think Belichick will be coaching the Patriots next year. A collision is coming with the Krafts demanding Jerod Mayo be named DC over Stevie Mullet Belichick.
Smith is a total headscratcher to me. I don't get what possessed the Pats to lay out all that money for a player that they seemed to have no idea how to use.
The one to Agholor was the only real pick on Mac. The 2nd was 3rd and 20 down 2 scores with a few minutes to go (where protecting the ball and kicking a fg does nothing) and the third wouldn’t have been picked if his receiver didn’t tip it forward to the defense. Which is actually similar to the ravens game… one legit pick on Mac
Patriots implement zone run schemes this offseason, seemingly for no clear reason... don't name an OC, implement Patricia as playcaller... seems like a wasted year... almost like they're waiting for someone who's not available yet... everyone thinking O'Brien, right? But what if they implemented those schemes to prepare the guys for their 2023 OC Sean McVay...
Okay take off the hats now. That sh*t definitely didn't happen.
You must have a good QB more than ever in todays NFL.
Occasionally, a Trent Dilfer type can win you a Super Bowl and that is what I believe BB was trying to do this season. The 2000 Ravens had a great dominant defense, run game with Jamal Lewis and Priest Holmes and adequate safe QB play. At times, the 2022 Pats reminded me of that team during this season.
Yeah. Same. And I’m not sure I can watch the playoffs next week. But by then my suffering should be over. Lol.
This isn’t the 2007 Super Bowl loss that kept me up for months
