Hes taken more shots than Jenna Haze yet he played. Your absolutely right, we benched guys who could have played but were a little banged up so why not Wes.

The homers here completely ignore context even while complaining that others aren't paying attention to everything going on. It was a "meaningless" game, yet the players who've been injured and taking beatings all season belonged in there and it's not right to criticize their playing.

The homers completely miss the obvious logic failure there.

There is no logic in a lot of Belichick's decisions. For better or for worse, I've come to accept that about him.

We just lost our season MVP. This is meaningless??!! Are you kidding me?

The game was meaningless, not losing Wes Welker.

Jesus, what is wrong with you people??!!!

I'm not too concerned with the decision to start Welker. His injury was a freak accident.

That said, if the idea was to get Brady time with Edelman, as upstater claims, then shouldn't they have benched Welker and used Edelman in his place? Makes no sense to me.

I'm much more concerned with the fact that Belichick clearly wanted to win this game, and they couldn't do it. That isn't a good sign no matter who was playing. I think he wanted to see something positive from this young defense in the 4th quarter, and there's no way he could have.

Its hindsight to play welker.. he was not hit, he could have gotten hurt on the practice field, its the work of the football gods.. Its not about if we should have sat him.. the brady descions were perplexing though... Wes Welker will be more than missed, he will be the signal of the end of the pats this year.. We better learn how to run the ball and pass protect better...

Shhh, Deus will laugh at you for not agreeing with him.

Welker was bad luck...what can you do.I'm more concerned about these 4th Q collapses. This team is just gassed,on both sides of the ball.21 points against this D is only eclipsed by the stupifying playcalling with a lead and Brady at QB.

We were once 83-1 with a 4th Q lead............not anymore.......disturbing.

The one common theme that has occurred in all of these 4th quarter road losses is the DPI calls that the opponent, in desperation, somehow seems to always get... a disturbing trend that ALL road teams these days seem to get that call against them if they have the lead late in the 4th quarter

This was really a meaningless game for the Patriots. Who cares about the seeding, we will end up having to face the Colts in the AFCCG if we get that far as they will not be beaten at home.

Welker injury is a real concern. Edelman played well and hopefully he can do it in the playoffs. I still think we can do the business, I just feel the team is peaking at the right time.

I'd say instead of logic failures, we have more capacity for complexity than the simpleton gloom&doomers.

Like this: you play your starters to stay sharp (kinda like the preseason) and then you PULL them (as BB did in the 2nd quarter).

After losing Welker, they went in at halftime and realized that Brady and Edelman better get on the same page quick.

The rest means absolutely nada.

It's a pity you don't have a wide enough viewpoint to recognize that there is no contradiction there.

Some nice tagging going on

You see Indy wont have a ****s worth of momentum come two weeks from now and they will be hoping to flick a switch and pick up where they left off back in December but at least they will be healthy. We just blew yet another fourth quarter lead and we lost Wes Welker. If you would kindly remove BB's package from your mouth and back away from his crotch youd see that we have neither momentum or health going into a playoff game next week, thank God its at home because we havent beet a team with a winning record on the road. Your idiotic homerism never gets old, you join after a couple of superbowl wins and yet im the frontruner.

enough, punk...I've been a Patriots fan since the 60's and I've seen a ton of frontrunning crybabies like you come and go through leaner times than today.Love the fact that one injury means Indy is healthy and the Patriots aren't...,nice two year old " goo gee gaa gaa me want my ba-ba" logic....how the hell you propose to prove your assertion that Indy won't have any momentum is beyond comprehension. Are you saying they will lose their opening playoff game? If they win, your idiotic "momentum" assertion will be rendered moot.

BTW,why are you a Patriot fan anyway...you are 100% negative about everything they do, you hate any postivity from any fans and you are constantly on the attack ,ripping and tearing away about every little wart and imperfection you can feverishly ferret out.Perhaps you should just wait for this year's Super Bowl winner and then root for them and change every year...should make your pathetic self esteem issues better.

That's not accurate at all. It's understood that some starters have to play. However, Welker's taken a beating this year, has missed games, and has a backup who could use the work. Brady is the starting QB, and is banged up.

The right decisions were to sit Welker and to have Brady only play a series or two. Once Welker went down, playing Brady in the 3rd quarter made sense, but he should then have been pulled with the lead in the 4th.

This is it. Welker didn't need any reps with Brady. Brady could probably complete passes to Welker with his eyes closed. Take Welker and Moss out and let Brady play a few series to get his reps in with the rest of the receivers and the tight ends.

Brady needed time with Edelman AFTER Welker got hurt.

I have to say, whether or not the Pats decided to tank this game, the defense has to be pretty embarrassed. 21 pts in the 4th quarter given up?

Welker playing at all was a bad decision. Brady playing in the 3rd quarter made sense. Brady playing in the 4th quarter was a bad decision.

Why?? If Welker wasn't going to play there was no point in Brady or Moss or the starting OL playing. Unfortunately you only have 45 actives on gamedays and Bill chose to rest the guy who wouldn't have played unless the season was on the line or guys who needed the rest the most based on things he knows that we can't begin to. He also chose to play the units that still needed work to gel and they can't do that when you're playing with second and third stringers out of the gate just like in preseason. Had Welker not gone down I'm not sure Bill would have pulled the first string offense until he felt comfortable they were executing in effectively. That's pretty much been his MO for as long as he's been here. Today that might have been first quarter, might have been a half. Obviously Brady told him he needed time with Edleman and visa versa at halftime when he figured out Wes is done.

This team has had issues with execution and consistency all season. There is no way they could let up on the last week of the season and hope to go far in the playoffs because they remained a work in progress. Bill's made some lousy decisions this season, playing his starters to begin this game was not one of them. They simply weren't good enough to ease off a week before the win or go home season commences.

Or worse, Welker could have gotten hurt in the playoffs, and then Edelman becomes the slot receiver without the advantage of a lot of in-game reps, and in a win-or-go-home situation. That's a lot to ask of a rookie--especially one who was a QB twelve months ago.

My god you must be smoking something. Where did you get this idea that they were spreading the team out just get Brady time with Edelman? They can do that in practice.

If the game was meaningless, Brady shouldn't have played more than the first half.

I don't have a problem with the decision to give the starters time. I have a problem with the results we got from this game. This team is abysmal in the second half, and you can tell they know it and are thinking about it instead of just playing. It's pathetic.

They can simulate a playoff-caliber NFL game in practice???

Really??????

about as succinct as anyone can put it...thanks for the post
