I suspect folks would have been fine with Boutte in the 3rd or early 4th. I'm fine with what we got. We have 4 WR's. A draftee with a shot to be really good was a luxury. However, we got one. He can rehab. But whatever happens, he is a fine prospect for the future,
Introduce him to the jugs machine and stash on the PS?

The problem with special teams was not the kicker and punter. It was the coverage and blocking.

Steal of the draft right there in Coburn

It's called football

I heard Kiper say that early in the season he thought Boutte could be a first round pick. Out of curiosity, I googled preseason mocks.

The first two I randomly found had him going #6 and #8 overall.

Not to put much value in that, but it is a bit exciting that he may have serious potential.

There goes Perry to New Orleans

da fuq happened?

Baringer was one of the punters on my radar. I would have preferred Turk because of hang time. But Baringer was clearly one of the top college punters in terms of average punt distance.
Baringer actually had higher hang time at the combine. 4.92 average vs Turk's 4.54. Small sample size but he was close to 5 seconds on most punts.
His Draft prospect ranking is slightly above where Jake Camarda was ranked last year (drafted round 4) who was pretty good with Tampa Bay this year. I'd say Baringer was a clear #1 this year.

I mentioned it earlier. Boutte isn't even 21 yet. I think that with guys like Troy Brown and Kendrick Bourne to help guide him, they could get him going in the right direction. If not, he's a 6th rounder.. Cut and move on.

Anyone thinking a damn great punter is useless to New England, should not be a New England fan.
Exactly!
The team punts quite frequently in the Mac era
