DRAFT DAY DISCUSSION Official Patriots Draft Day 3 Thread - Rounds 4-7

So they draft Strange in round 1 last year and now go very heavy on guards today...doesn't make much sense. They need tackles
Quality of the draft makes a difference

Which IOL's did we have coming into the draft?
Strange
Onwenu - a free agent after the season
Andrews - he'll play as long as he can (this certainly good be his last year)
Hines - our #1 backup with no experience, coming back from injuries
Ferentz - first off the bench YUCH
Murray - YUCH
Russey - PS, roster, PS, roster, but he couldn't come close to beating out Ferentz

And YOU don't think that we need 2023 help at IOL!!!!!

You can draft ten randoms who are listed at tackle and still be screwed if they are bad. I hate the OT line depth on this team, but I totally buy that the draft wasn’t the way to address it. Or rather, that they could have addressed it but the only way to do so would have cost them Christian Gonzalez. If you’re starting left tackle is a rookie drafted after the second round, you’re screwed.
Oh I love the Gonzalez pick. That was A+. So at that point since corner was an issue too it makes sense. All I've been saying is why avoid tackle?

What frustrates me about the fourth round we could have traded up for a legitimate wr or cover lb. Heck we could have added another stud in the Secondary but instead we reached for guys we had some familiarity with.
I dont believe any of those fourth rounders would not of been there in the 6th.

Tampa took the lacrosse player
BB right now...

Tackle was more important. But I never said the Pats didn't need OLine help. I just questioned why would they avoid tackle.

How do we know any of these guys will be better this year than Andrew Steuber, Chasen Hines, or Kody Russey?
I don't know. How about trusting that Belichick and Klemm know that there needs to be competition at IOL this year and next. BTW, I think that Hines will be on the 53.

I can bring in 10 joes off the street and call it depth. Doesn't mean its quality. Tackle was more of an issue. They now have 7 or maybe 8 interior guys and if Trent Brown goes down at tackle they are ****ed. Thats the difference.
It was assumed by everyone here, but you, that I was talking about quality depth when I referenced IOL depth. It goes without saying that the Patriots brass feels that these three are better than what they have currently, or at least have the potential to be better sooner rather than later.

You should probably have your lead level checked. #toomanypaintchips

Let's sum up the 4th round:

C Jake Andrews - Projected 7th round
K Chad Ryland - Projected UDFA
G Sidy Sow - Projected UDFA

Reach, Reach, Reach.

Wow, talk about wasting our entire 4th round!
I don't get BB....he could have been a 15 time Super Bowl champ if he didn't make these crazy picks so early. To leave so many great players on the board each year just makes zero sense. Like why not take Kraft TE or Downs WR in the 3rd, Mapu, Charlie Jones, Dawand Jones in the 4th, than take all those guys he likes afterwards makes no sense. What is he looking for, who wears their underwear better? Who gets up the earliest? Take at least that good punter from Michigan State here at least, Xavier Hutchison, Parker Washington, AT Perry, maybe Karl Brooks.....love BB but definitely leaves TOO much on the table.

And some of us will wait to see the results, while others will attack it before they even know what it is.
It is like that around here. People went to Ian last year trying to ban me, for being critical of our WR group. The link I posted was not koolaid drinker approved, but I dug up a few more that also had our WR group ranked outside the top 20.

After the season the talking heads on TV & Radio we’re all saying Mac didn’t have the weapons.

Shocker !

People have forgotten that the Pats have regularly carried 9-10 OL on the 53 during the season. It was very rare to have only 8.

Depth isn't always considered quality. Nice run back though. Yeah, sure these guys are probably better than what they have but what you aren't seeing is what happens when Trent Brown gets hurt again? Mac Jones has literally no one else on the left side. Rieff is a fossil.

What good does it accomplish if Mac gets sacked 50 times next year?

Since so many people are upset about the draft, don't forget to keep your receipts as we will revisit this discussion sometime during the season.

1000% and if you dare question Lord Bill’s genius you are told not to watch the games anymore and get insults fired high and inside.

Picking 3 interior lineman when you have a desperate need for a competent LT seems dumb.
Almost as dumb as asking a defensive coordinator to coach and mentor your 2nd year qb.

Bill has repeatedly shown he does many dumb things and at 20 million a year he deserves to be questioned and criticized for bonehead decisions

Its the only accountability he has
So, it is dumb not to draft an LT when you think that none of them are any better than what you, or anyone that you might sign or trade for later?

We are drafting tight end in rounds 1 or 2 next year I guess. Everyone has invested so much in tight ends. Henry or gesicki is not going to get a big contract as there will be surplus of right ends . So maybe we can get both for under 10 million in total next year if they have a good year.

Is Zack Kuntz really still out there or did i miss something?

The plays and formation are different. Sarkisian ran, and still runs, a lot of RPO.
The Pats ran a lot of RPO's with Cam Newton, the system doesn't prevent them from getting into looks that west coast or RPO teams use.

What has Bill done without Brady that should make me trust him?

I agree, I was critical of our WR last year & Criticized by the Patsfans experts

They even went to Ian to get me banned.
Obviously they are not as important as they think they are because I am still here.

Love to hear them defend our 2022 passing game.

The highlight of the season, was Thornton turning heads in the film room

What makes you think that Mapu would have been around in the 4th?

You do know that Dawand Jones has major weight and attitude issues. He refused to weigh in at his Pro-Day. They've already got ONE OT with those issues.
Why take the Punter from Mich State in the 5th when he's still there right now?

How do you know what he's leaving on the table? Are you Ms. Cleo and can see the future and know how these guy's careers will go?
