How in the world would be a 1 year deal be good? The CB market is in a depression. You could've gotten a good starter for a very reasonable deal for many years. Just a rent for a season is not the way to go. He showed last year that he can be a great CB and if doesn't want to play here or every season needs a kick in the ass to perform than he isn't the right player for the Pats.

Injuries, and the attitude. Even if he acts up, we might be stuck with him a couple years due to a long term contract, just like Afalius.

Did you read the article? This seems to be coming down to wether he wants to take a long term deal in a suppressed market or take a one year deal and try again next year. For all we know we are the ones offering both. He has a decision to make but if we aren't the ones offering both we better hope he choses the one year option as that almost certainly would be with us.

Yes I did read it. But there wasn't only Talib on the market and there was a cheap solution on the market surely. What I'm saying is this CB market was so deep and even though Talib was the nr.1 priority like with Welker they could've gotten a plan B in a situation like this. Let's say the defense is really good this year and Talib has a great year and becomes a stud CB but they don't win the SB. Next year they'd have to pay him in the 8-9m range probably and we'd be once again be in the market for a great CB.

I just want a long term solution finally for the secondary and Talib could be the one but he isn't the only solution.

Rumor is that he is talking about Cruz.

Yeah entertaining as in he sounds like a child gossiping on twitter. When I read his tweets I often wonder if he goes into these owners meetings and the other owners just hand him a coloring book and tell him to be quiet.

They have a different table for him & Woody Johnson

Aaron Wilson ?@RavensInsider
Saints announce three-year deal for tight end Ben Watson

So we'll (probably) be seeing him again this year.

no one has been rumored about talking to cruz

I don't see why we would have a use for him after signing Wilson.

Upgrade over Gregory and run a 3 safety set? Although if they were to do that I might prefer Michael Huff who would probably come for half as much.

Bein able to move McCourty back to corner.

I think the McCourty at CB days are done. He can be great at both, but he's more consistent and better utilized at safety. He also has a higher upside there.

The team wanted him at safety last offseason according to Bedard, it couldn't materialize because we didn't have the corners. The team goes out and gets Talib, and Dennard steps up - this allows them to move McCourty to safety and suddenly the defense is stopping teams again. The biggest domino, IMO, of it all was McCourty at safety. His range, combined with solid play on the outside, allowed the Patriots to play more one-deep safety and use Gregory over the opposing team's TE or roam the middle of the field. We were a much aggressive D for it, and it paid off.

I don't want to see us lose that. Ed Reed may be the greatest free safety to ever live, but I'm perfectly content with McCourty's play at safety.

Regarding Adrian Wilson and potentially adding Reed - I'll let the Patriots sort this out. The thing about Wilson to factor in is he might not be kicking a DB off the depth chart in the nickel, he might be kicking off an LB. Belichick is 0-2 in getting that hybrid player, but Wilson is easily the best prospect we have of having an oversized safety play LB/S hybrid in the nickel. You want to talk about improving coverage in your sub? I'm pretty sure Wilson, no matter what people say about him losing a step, is a massive upgrade in coverage over Hightower or Spikes. If we can get one of those LBs off and get Wilson off, that pass defense is going to improve dramatically.

Now, that might not be what Belichick has in mind at all, and maybe it is just a Gregory-AWilson swap, but I'm throwing that out there. If we acquire another safety in the draft or free agency, I think it would lend credence to this line of thinking.

?

ESPN Cleveland has learned from multiple sources that the delay in Cribbs signing is because he failed his physical with the Cardinals on Monday. It is unclear at this time what may have been the cause of the failed physical and if this will deter Arizona from signing the nine year NFL veteran.

Update: Mike Garafolo of USA Today has tweeted that Cribbs' agent JR Rickert said his client underwent surgery to repair meniscus after the season and it has not completely healed. He added that they expect for Arizona to give Cribbs another physical in a few weeks and possibly sign him then.
