They should have been doing that all game. Instead they were using a base rush with ends in contain and trying to make Newton beat them with his arm instead of his legs and he gleefully obliged.
Some of it is coaching. Against Smith and Watson and now Newton they gimped the pass rush to avoid getting beaten by the quarterback's legs and paid for it. Belichick or Patricia have a complex about mobile quarterbacks.
