Maybe we’re looking at it wrongly. What if Belichick already knows that Zappe’s the guy. If Mac is healthy, then he’s almost obligated to start Mac so as not to put the pressure on Zappe. Mac ****s the bed and the crowd makes the call for Belichick. Zappe is in a no-lose situation.
No, it's over. If you're worried about Zappe, I wouldn't be. Barring a disastrous showing by Zappe in the second half, or at any further point in the season, he's likely the guy. He doesn't have to go undefeated, he just needs to be smart 95% of the time and give them a chance in each game for the rest of the season.

I'm guessing Bill had a hunch and maybe may have been able to tell - which is sort of crazy. Definitely a historic night, and it's never fun to see a player fail. But again, as I said, this is the key benefit of having someone like Zappe on the roster because if it was Hoyer and Gilbert, I think most people would be feeling pretty lousy right about now.

Fortunately, they have a guy who might be able to keep them in the mix, so while one door closes, another one is open and we're fortunate that happens to be the case.
Yeah, this situation puts a much different spin on Bill's refusal to put his stamp on Mac over the last couple weeks... It makes me feel like Bill has a hunch about Zappe. Zappe's his guy.

If we don't win this game I'm gonna be beyond pissed. This is like one of the only games on the schedule I thought we were guaranteed to win and we are losing at halftime. Really just goes to show the days of penciling in wins for this team are over.

I just looked up 2023 free agent tackles. There are none.

But I was shocked to see that Isaiah Wynn is 25 years old.

This is his 5th season.

We drafted a 20 year old to play tackle?

Really?

He didn't even have old man strength back then

They better figure out the defense during the half. Mac just isn't seeing the field
He folded under the pressure, the rust and the atmosphere with fans chanting for Zappe pretty much from the get go. I don’t blame him, that’s a difficult situation. But obviously that’s not what you want to see from your franchise QB. Mental toughness is critical and I’m not sure Mac has it.

So Mac is toast and the Pats are still losing to the Bears, at home.

The QB controversy was just settled. I was expecting at least a few more horrendous picks before they yanked him. But damn Bill is a cold ass mf

I actually still think Mac is the guy. Looks like maybe he wasn't ready to come back yet. Until BB says Zappe is their guy going forward I still expect Mac to be QB1
I don't know if Zappe is anything long term but it certainly looks like Mac isn't the guy. He reproduced exactly what he has been doing before he got injured.

I think the Pats felt the same way and didn’t take them seriously…figured fields would sh:t the bed….but didn’t put spy on him so he is running all over us and extending plays….Bears want this game more than pats so far

Really weird feeling right now. That's an extremely quick hook for Mac.
And worse - the play calls as soon as Zappe came in were completely different (and better/aggressive) than first qtr when Mac was in.
It really felt like the plan was to show that Mac isn't good anymore, and gain PR points for switching back to Zappe.
But, they didn't need to do all the smoke and mirrors. They could have kept Mac on ice until he healed more. Now, I fear his mental game will be shook too much to ever return. I can't see this going well. I don't think Mac will be a good soldier as #2 the rest of the season.

He played identically to the way he started the season. Had no Zappe fans then so what‘s the excuse for those clunkers?

It was like this in the Brady era too. Always a trap game every year. Some notable examples would be Miami in '04, Cleveland in '10, Arizona in '12.

The difference is we now lose consistently to the good teams.

I know I've said this 100 times but
TAVAI F*CKING SUCKS

They gotta cover Fields better. Make an adjustment.

They weren't different, Mac just did not make the right read and throw.
