If the team WANTED to pay Solder $15M a year for four years, they could have found the space. I don't think that Solder is worth the contract he signed. I believe some of the bonus could even be moved to guaranteed 2019 salary.

EXAMPLE
Signing bonus $28M.
Salaries: $1M, $8M, $10M, $13M
2018 cap $8M

Folks should go back and look at the first year of the Gilmore contract, We CAN sign players for a high AAV with a low first year cap hit.

True. But it's also possible that the Giants guaranteed Solder more cash up front in a way that pushed his 2018 cap hit beyond what was reasonable for the Pats to match.

So Butler basically won nothing by refusing the offer, if the offer is true.
true

However, if Butler had a better year, his contract would have been for even more money.

Brady must be ****ing pissed right now, gone are his left tackle and favorite 3d down target in crunch time...
That guy has seen so many excellent players leave. If anyone is ok, it’s Brady.

So in a dream scenario we could get Murphy Sue Preston Brown or Zach Brown.
I'm good with that
Could've sworn the Redskins re-signed/extended Zach Brown but it looks like they haven't. I wanted him last year. Redskins got him for cheap. Pats could use someone like that.

This really sucks right now.

We need to sure up both lines, and keep Brady from dying. I am sorry, but In Cannon I Do Not Trust.

Did I miss where the Patriots didn't trade for Danny Shelton and Don't have Vincent Valentine coming back?

How many games have we seen Superbowl for instance Brady kills it and a soft ass D letting him down or barely coming thru.
If We don't spend on D I don't know what to say.

Nah but that dude you are quoting most probably doesnt even know about Shelton and has forgotton about VV.

Likely might happen again. I would like to add another defensive piece. I know already that they likely will take a tackle at 31 or maybe 43. One of those picks.

There is 15 million in cap space not counting the 5 million for draft picks. Then the pats like to have another 5 million in emergency funds for mid-season acquisitions. So really we are talking about 10 million in cap space, which is equivalent to one major splash FA signing or two smaller ones.

The Pats currently sit at 21M in Cap Space under the Top 51 Rule. They will only need 2-3M (not 5) for Draft picks. They will likely keep about 5M in reserve, but that can come from many different places, including changes to current contracts.

The Pats have about 18M.. Not 10M..

Well the iggles are over the cap and have done a good job managing it. They likely will have to do some restructuring. Either way it looks like the pats will have to patch and glue some positions. Almost like a little rebuild at certain positions with brady playing his final year at any moment.

The Eagles (and this is before all FA signings and trades are finalized) according to OTC have @$910,000 cap for this year, what is really scary (if you are an eagles fan) is that they are only $76,000 under the projected 2019 cap!!!

SO they have some serious cap work to do!

I think Brady would sacrifice a receiver for the defense getting off the field on third down

Yeah. Apparently, his sacrificing live chickens thing just didn't work last season. Another Guererro eff-up, if you ask me.

Yup, Dwayne Allen frees up 5 mil real quick. It would be nice of Gronk to let us know what he is planning on doing.

Also , is this the year we draft a new kicker? Cutting Gost saves us 3.5 million.

Clearly spoken like someone who doesn't understand how the cap works.
Allen doesn't free up 5M. He only free's up 4.4M since cutting him would bump the next guy up into the top 51.

Cutting Gostowski would only free up about 2.9M. Again, because it bumps the next guy up into the Top 51..

Look at the TE contracts that were just signed.. Trey Burton got 8M APY. Graham got 10M. Darren Fells got 4M. Only Burton comes close to being the blocker that Dwayne Allen is. And Allen is a better receiver than given credit for.. The Pats used him almost exclusively as a blocker last year, helping both Waddle and Fleming..

To BB's credit he did sign a Nate...wait for it Nate Ebner.
