If the team WANTED to pay Solder $15M a year for four years, they could have found the space. I don't think that Solder is worth the contract he signed. I believe some of the bonus could even be moved to guaranteed 2019 salary.

Signing bonus $28M.
Salaries: $1M, $8M, $10M, $13M
2018 cap $8M
Folks should go back and look at the first year of the Gilmore contract, We CAN sign players for a high AAV with a low first year cap hit.
True. But it's also possible that the Giants guaranteed Solder more cash up front in a way that pushed his 2018 cap hit beyond what was reasonable for the Pats to match.
