Where exactly are we spending the money again?
Serious question, i have no clue.

There is 15 million in cap space not counting the 5 million for draft picks. Then the pats like to have another 5 million in emergency funds for mid-season acquisitions. So really we are talking about 10 million in cap space, which is equivalent to one major splash FA signing or two smaller ones.

There are plenty of moves that they can do to free up cap space.

I certainly hope there's another shoe to drop here, like the Moss trade and Welker signing or the dillon trade...cuz if not, this team is worlds worse than the team that got blown off the field at the super bowl and needed a miracle come back to beat Blake bortles...

it's almost like its hard to continue to field a team of top tier talent when you win the superbowl or come within one game of winning the superbowl every year for over a decade, while at the same time having fake scandals brought against you to have even more of your draft leverage taken away.

Yup, Dwayne Allen frees up 5 mil real quick. It would be nice of Gronk to let us know what he is planning on doing.

Also , is this the year we draft a new kicker? Cutting Gost saves us 3.5 million.

???

There are no payments on his signing bonus. Gronk spent that the year he signed.

Literally (cash-wise), yes. Cap-wise/contract terms, he has no more guaranteed money coming aside from the signing-bonus pro-rata ($2M in 2018 & $2M in 2019).

I’ll pass on that Solder contract.

It’s not my job to provide a plan. You don’t have to be a Michelin Star Chef to be able to critize your food. I can recognize when things are going poorly and they are.
Yeah but we’re in a cap crunch, we can’t keep all these guys.

Imagine how much easier all of this would be to stomach if we had just won that freaking Super Bowl. We’d have #6 solidifying our run as perhaps the best of any sport and there would be nothing to complain about, nothing more to chase. FFS Bill all you had to do was let Butler play and it would be so much better!

Until bill does something about it, we have 20 million to work with. Not sure why dwayne allen is still on this team.

Solder was holding us back from making moves, now that he is gone...

I’d hope we didn’t keep Allen over Lewis..

Its not really about cap crunch just simple salary cap awareness.
BB wouldn't sign any of those contracts even if he had more money.

We have two out of the last 4 superbowls. Do we really have anything to complain about? People need to let it go

We’ve resigned Brandon Bolden, Brandon King, and Nate Ebner.

We’ve lost Amendola, Lewis, Butler, and Solder. And meanwhile Gronk is considering retirement.

A+ offseason Bill, really taking advantage of Brady’s remaining window.

Look at the money the FAs got. There's literally no way for us to pay that kind of money with a salary cap. It sucks, but there's just not a way around it at all. Solder is literally the highest paid OL in the game now. Butler just got Gilmore money. Lewis and Amendola got 2 - 3x what they would have earned here. How in the world were we going to compete with that?

Don't forget offering a contract to a backup QB. Likely $5-8M per year.

They should be going all-in (*mostly. some obvious limits) with Brady in his waning years. No QB will ever step foot in New England again, let alone the NFL, with a higher degree of clutch ability and overall greatness that gives a team a better chance at winning a Super Bowl each year. You've got to make the most of it. Get that 6th Super Bowl. If that means finishing bottom 5 for a year after Brady retires, then so be it. Use that valuable draft pick as the next building block for a QB.

I simply don't buy that. I don't believe for a second people would be ok being a crap team for a good chance at getting #6. People were pushing to go all in a decade ago to get #4. We won that one without sacrificing the future of the team. People then wanted us to go all in for #5. We won that one too without sacrificing the future. Yet here we are, people pushing to go all in for #6.

So yeah, people aren't going to magically stop caring about wins and losses once Brady retires.

Nah, I’ll never let it go. If you get to the big game you need to take advantage
