I love the idea that we just witnessed , as current fans, one of the greatest games in the history of the NFL. By the 2 of the greatest. And we came out on top. Dam, I cant even get to sleep. The heck with work, I'm basking in this. Am I going overboard?
Weren't you one of the dudes in the game thread proclaiming it was over? I'm just razzing you a bit. Please don't take it to heart.
Anyway, you summed it up beautifully. I know I've thrown my shots at Manning, as we all have at times, but we did watch two of the greatest of all time play for the 14th time and it was every bit as good as it was supposed to be. Manning may not have had a great statistical night, but did you see some of the throws on that touchdown drive to tie? Say what you want about his arm strength (and it does look to have diminished), the man made some incredible throws in VERY tight spots.
But Brady,
FOR THE 3RD WEEK IN A ROW, brought his best. Let's think back to the early going when people on this very board were declaring him DOA and saying he's lost all his steps, not just one. People were legitimately calling for Mallet. Wait, what? Those same people reared their ugly heads briefly for a half of football tonight. And then . . .
Brady marches the team down on its first four consecutive drives of the second half down the field for TD's. He was within a "Svitek giving him one more second to deliver a strike to Edelman in the endzone" play from a fifth consecutive TD, which would have probably ended the game in regulation. No OT, no dramatic back-and-forth, no bonehead play to win on a FG. Simply put, Brady has not lost a single step. He's not old and decrepit. He's still the same league MVP with the rings, the undefeated regular season, and that cool, calm demeanor that wins games in the clutch . . . something he's done a few times this season and had a game-winning drive stolen from his last week.
He's simply the GOAT.
