Cool metric and info, thanks

Of course Maye's impact is much bigger and he might trully be the best player on O already, but i wanted to laugh at our state anyway in my op
It certainly is not a good look that our best offensive player is a second year player who has barely scratched the surface of his own potential.

Probably already discussed, but I wonder if the Higgins finality heats up the Aiyuk trade market.

Back in 2021, Ekuale looked like he could have been a nice find for us. Showed some inside pass rush chops and there seemed to be something there to work with, a developing player who was older at 27 but still best football ahead. 2022 he was ok but never really built on it and was just whatever. 2023 he got hurt early. Last year he was coming back from injury and also thrust into a starter role that's pretty ridiculous for his talent level.

I'm assuming PIT got him for a low cost 1 year deal that doesn't guarantee him a roster spot and that's a solid add for him at that price point/roster level. I think he's fine to have in camp as part of the initial 90. Ideally he'd be a guy who gets cut before the season or makes it as a last level of depth.
His best role was as an undersized DT rushing on obvious passing downs.
Then he juiced.
The he got fat
Then we tried to make him a 3 down player and he was abysmal. Worst starter in the league level.

Basing this off of the idea that we can’t fix everything in one off season. Started looking at what are our must needs, and what are things that would be good to fix, but maybe we can’t right now.

Offense:
If the season started tomorrow we could be fine with our QB, RB and TE positions. Upgrades at Rb and TE would be nice but more of a luxury compared to other spots.

WR: Need one guy for sure through trade or the draft. 2 would be best, but might have to wait for that. Is Amari Cooper better than Boutte or Bourne right now? Maybe, but we have more pressing needs.

LT: Monumental Need

LG: As much as I’d like to upgrade here, I can see them letting Sow, Robinson and Wallace battle for this spot.

C: I personally think they intend on this being Strange’s home

RG/RT: Fine, could use some depth. Depending on LG victor, Wallace and Robinson could provide depth.

Stating the obvious, but the major needs on offense are LT and impact WR.

Luxury needs: RB, TE, another WR, LG

Defense:
DL: Real concern with Barmore. I’m operating under the thought he won’t be available.

Williams and White are two starters. Pharms and Tonga good depth. Tonga maybe as early down run defender. Need another DT and DE oppo White.

Edge: Landry, Chaisson, Jennings and Ximines could be fine. Would like another but more of a luxury.

LB: Solid

CB: Solid. Another nickel type would be good

S: Pretty solid. A young FS type would be good

Defense Needs: DT and DE

Luxury: Edge, Nickel, FS

Alrighty…
I disagree with LG. After last year I just can’t stand to put another practice squad level guy in a starter role and hope. And Robinson and Sow have absolutely been practice squad caliber.
I actually like Strange a lot better as a G.
Rookie Cs historically do well, it’s one of the most successful rookie positions including later round guys. Maybe that’s the answer?

Maybe Jared Wilson from Georgia in the 3rd for C.

LT: Need
LG: Strange
C: Wilson
RG: Onwenu
RT: Moses

Caedan Wallace should not leave Moses’s side. Soak up as much knowledge as possible.

M Becton signed with the Chargers funny how we passed.

Why does is seem to be a common presumption that Strange can play Center? He did well pass blocking as a Center but his run blocking was atrocious.

I think it’s more based on the possibility of him doing it. He got thrown in there for the first time at the end of the year, likely without much practice or coaching. Don’t know if he can do it or not. Would be nice to have a longer term option there. A full offseason preparing for it and good coaching might help him out.

I think it is assumed that with more practice, a better OL coach, and better health/more time since injury, he will improve. But that is simply an assumption.

I like the idea of Strange at center because of his size and athletic ability but I think I agree with you on this one. Not to mention it's probably best for his own development to leave him as LG.

Hopefully you are correct about finding a starting center in the draft.

Also this decision doesn't need to be made at least until OTAs if not even until training camp so it can wait until we find a starting caliber alternative at either C or G.

I believe OTAs start just before the draft but even still I don't think informing Strange after the draft about which spot will make too big of an impact.

I would love it if he could be out long term answer but even at LG his run blocking was not that good. Heres to hoping

I think the best solution would be to 1) sign a decent free agent left guard and 2) draft a center. Then, go into camp seeing what Strange is best at and let him play there - you are flexible to either option and you will just have a nice layer of depth regardless. They need quality depth at LG and C anyway.

Honestly the best solution is they should know where Strange is best, it shouldn’t be trial and error. Then you fill the other spot.

We don’t know where they think he is best, but they certainly better.

Also have to consider change in scheme from last year... and most of the coaches are gone... although Kugler is still present. I have to imagine they "know" but might still want to get more tape on him. He didn't practice at C a whole lot last year.

They were in on Dalman which makes me think he's at LG. They've sniffed around some LGs but haven't really gone after any very hard.

They have to have evaluated 3 years in the league and know where they want him. Thats basic stuff.

I think he’s a LG, it really is the best position for his skill set.
I think the only reason to play him at C is if you don’t have one.

As bad as Brown was last year, if we starts the season today I’d feel better with Brown at C and Strange at LG than Steange at C and Robinson at LG without hesitation.

Andre James is a FA who was McD C in Vegas. He would be a welcome addition.
