Adding guys all older than 31 and not all that good to begin with in Morgan Moses, Wes Schweitzer, and Mack Hollins as the only moves on offense is gross negligence period end of debate. If come May something changes my mind then I will.

Name the players younger than 31, that are no longer available, you think the Patriots should have signed, but also explain the money you would have given them. Should we have offered Godwin $35 million a season so he has no choice but to sign with us?

They went 4-13 each of the past two years yet here you are crying gross negligence because they haven’t filled all of their holes—with their two biggest also being the most difficult to fill—within the first week of free agency.

Fine if culture leads to wins sooner rather than later. Not fine if it doesn't.

Worked pretty well for Belichick. His first year in Bew England he brought in Roman Phifer, Bobby Hamilton, and a bunch of other guys because he knew that you need leaders in every unit. And they established a winning mindset and culture, and kept reinforcing that as needed for the next 20 years.

It’s becoming clear to me that Vrabel is prioritizing culture fits over total talent in Year 1. He would rather get 6-7 wins and establish a culture this year, so that in 2026 if they stretch for more talent, they are bringing in guys into an already-established culture. That way there is more room to bring in guys who aren’t perfect culture fits, because they will conform to the established culture. If there is no established culture and you bringing in a wide mix of guys then you run the risk of never establishing one.

I completely disagree.
That’s what got Mayo fired. Happy work place and caring about people meant more than football.
There is no way Vrabel is passing on getting better football players so he can wait a year and sing kumbaya while losing. He wants to win now.

He has been very aggressive in Free Agency. Realistically we needed 10 new starters

We have the rest if free agency and the draft to address WR LT and LG/C as well as more depth.
We were aggressive at the WR position offering the most to our top target.

If he wanted to lose and build culture he would have kept Andrews, and overpaid for aging veteran players on their last leg. He didn’t do that.

Consider the possibility that I learned from our exchange.

Normally a person arguing that they can conceive that they are wrong, learning they are would acknowledge it. You did not and instead posted that Kraft meeting the extremely low bar of 90% cash to cap and falling way short of spending to the cap is proof he isn’t cheap.
In other words had you learned from that and been unable to admit you were wrong, you still wouldn’t have made this post which professes your ignorance on the topic all over again.

Having multiple plans heading into free agency simply means that you know you won’t get everyone you want, so you prioritize those you want the most, try to sign them, and when the other 31 teams you are competing with get some of them you adapt and try to sign others. The Patriots plan in this free agency was clearly to focus on defense because the offensive side of the ball sucked. They signed a good number of players who will improve their defense significantly, and were also able to address one of their tackle holes. Unfortunately you can only get what is there to get, and can’t fill all the holes the Patriots roster had in one free agency. Also unfortunate is that some fans want them to act out of desperation and build a team of mediocre overpaid players. Acting out of desperation is the worst way to build a team, and in glad they aren’t listening to the crying and screaming, but instead are going about systematically improving their team where the best opportunities are provided. The offseason is still less than a week old. The sky isn’t falling, and they still have plenty of opportunities too improve their roster.

One thing that is becoming clearer and clearer to me is that they are going to have to build their defense in free agency and the draft, and most of their offense through the draft. Next year will be the third year in a row where the opportunities to get high quality OT’s and WR’s in free agency basically doesn’t exist. Teams are franchising and re-Signing their stars at these positions, and they are never seeing the open market. There will be opportunities at RB and interior offensive line, but the Patriots will have to fix LT and WR in the draft.

Defense is a different story. The market for good defenders was substantially better than on the offensive side of the ball. And the same will be true next year. However you don’t want to pay free agent prices for your entire defense, so they will have to use some of their draft capitol on that side of the ball as well.

They have got some talent already and picked up some culture type players (team captains)
The offense side of FA sucked. Most players resigned
There are a bunch of FA’s left and we will sign a bunch more
Most of them probably think they are worth more than what the market says. Hence no other team is signing them also
As time goes on those players will sign for less and we will get some
We will also possibly make a trade and when players get released we will get some more
Just because there is a player out there you make like and your saying pay him what he wants we have the money
That would be foolish. The market says otherwise.
Believe me they are in touch with certain players agents.
When they get a price from another team they call us and we either beat it or drop out
Patience is a virtue here

I don't necessarily expect every move to work but I'm not giving them credit for not even trying to fill these holes. Regardless how difficult you think they are to fill there is no debate that nothing doesn't fix it. I don't really care what week of free agency it is when they finally do address then I'll consider the moves until then it's neglect not to try.

I think the frustration is they talked about building around Drake, putting talent around Drake and much like last year thus far they have swung and they have missed or felt players were pricing themselves out of the range.

Let me be clear I love Mikes strategy of getting guys who want to be there and buy in. He said if they want to be there and be a part of it they will make the contracts work.

I believe the reports saying they were hesitant to make DK the highest paid player on the team is accurate.
Mike is going for culture and teamwork and quality men.

That’s all great, you also need to find playmakers so our promising franchise QB can make plays and build a walk around him to protect him.

Talent wise I love what the Bears are doing for Caleb Williams building a whole new O line around him and they filled the WR cupboard last year.

Now if Polk and Baker can become playmakers we are in a much better spot, however those are huge Ifs and I am terrified of taking a WR other than Hunter in this draft expecting them to be a difference maker.

That’s where the frustration is the front office is thus far not living up to their promises of building around Maye and giving him all the resources, when we certainly have the cap to outbid any teams offer.

So it’s a balance of wanting guys who want to be there and be a part of it but also having the talent to sniff the playoffs.

How do you know they were trying? I heard they were in on Fries, Mekari, Robinson, Kupp, and a number of other players, they just weren’t able to get them. Believe it or not there are actually 31 other teams trying to do the same things.
