DRAFT DAY DISCUSSION Official 2025 Draft Thread: Day One

Just heard the interview with Will Campbell and the Boston media.

Other than local players have we ever had a player from a major college program from another region say that he knew very early that he wanted to be a Patriot.

Most players just accept they will he drafted and play wherever, but Campbell sincerely seems to have been invested in becoming a Patriot.

One of higgins, green, emmanwori, ezerieruaka should be there. Be happy with any of them.
Is there a reason that Ohio State LB/Edge Jack Sawyer isn't being mentioned as a possible pick at 38. He was very disruptive in the NCAA Championship game I watch and a couple of months ago he was often mentioned as a possible 2nd rounder.

Anything happen that caused him to disappear from the discussion

Ironically, very short arms.

I think he's fine, but what do you hang your hat on? He's not particularly fast, he's not particularly big and with that offense, he's not a proven route runner. I wouldn't complain if we drafted him but I see him more as a late day two/day three guy.
Its his lack of effective route tree. I will have to look for the article but I think it was 50 of his 80 targets were hitches or Go balls. He is able to sell his routes with head bobs to gain separation in college, but I am not sure that will fly in the NFL.

He is not a very good accelerator, again in college he did alright but against most CBs in the nfl I think he will struggle to with YAC. He also faced a lot of off coverage and ate, but I think it is a risky projection to the NFL. I do think he will have some success but I like other guys much better.

Glad he didn't have Von Miller arms, he'd be beyond pathetic.

Will Johnson is clearly the highest rated player remaining, however, CB isn’t a major need and I question his scheme fit with a Vrabel defense. He isn’t a great press man corner and where he excels is playing off, keeping the ball in front of him and reading the QB and the WR (similar to Travis Hunter). Having said that, if he is sitting there at 38 and they are okay with the medical, could Will Johnson be the Devin McCourty FS we have been looking for? He is really smart, very instinctive and reads the game so well. For other schemes it would be a waste to move him from CB, but at 38 it could be an interesting fit here. Just a thought.

Ultimately at 38 I would be looking at who could help Drake Maye the most. I think we could double dip on OL with one of the 3rd rounders, so here I would look to add a weapon. There are a few WR’s available and I have been on record in the draft forum about my affection for Tre Harris.

Looking at the board though my top choice would be RB TreVeyon Henderson. A big play threat out of the backfield as both a runner and receiver. I think he could be our Jahmyr Gibbs. To me that is a far better risk/reward proposition than one of these 2nd tier WR’s.

And they may have to wait over a year to figure that out, which we cannot afford to do.
Reports are Simmons is ahead of schedule and should be ready for training camp.

Not saying injury wasn't a risk and affected his draft stock. It did. But fully healthy Simmons is likely the best LT to come out of this draft class.

Will Johnson isn't a need. For him not to be picked in the 1st tells us that medicals knocked him down.

We really need a young playmaker at WR to put opposite to Diggs so they don't double team him all game long just because our other WRs are complete trash.

1st round WRs were Travis Hunter, T-Mac, Egbuka, and Golden. There's still a LOT of WR talent available in round 2.

Still out there:
Luther Burden, Elic Ayomanor, Jayden Higgins, Tre Harris, Kyle Williams, Jack Bech, Jalen Royals, Jaylin Noel, etc.

I like the idea of double dipping at WR. One in the 2nd and one in the 3rd. Our other 3rd round pick just BPA. That could be a RB or a TE.

Who's reports? His?
That was a pretty serious injury, Let's see if his 33" arms are ready to go FULL TIME when they decide he's ready to go.

Is Georgia center Jared Wilson worth taking at this point?

Mocking the pre-Patriots picks for round 2

33. Cleveland - Shedeur Sanders
34. Houston - Luther Burden
35. Tennessee - Mike Green
36. Cleveland - Will Johnson
37. LV - Trey Amos
38. Patriots are on the clock.

Edge - Ezeiruaku, Scourton
WR - Higgins, Bech, Noel, Williams
TE - Mason Taylor
SAF - Xavier Watts, Emmanwori
DT - Darius Alexander
RB - Treveyon Henderson

Unless there's someone they love, trading back makes sense.
Mike Green would have been that guy for me so agreed we should trade down if we can in that scenario.

I do not think Ersery is plug and play so him sitting behind a proven RT and more competition for Caedan Wallace would allow both Wallace and Ersery to absorb the coaching and offensive system. Pick 38 on a developmental tackle seems a bit rich to me.
Right. Maybe in the 4th but not at 38.

There hasn’t been a single Pro Bowl OT with a wingspan under 80 inches in the last 25 years. And if that doesn’t matter to you, do yourself a favor and don’t invest your own money.

Considering the Pro Bowl is a nothing game, WHO CARES! The Peo Bowl doesn't mean s**t anymore.

The Draft went pretty much as predicted by many on this board.

What do the Pats do next? WR, DL, RB?

Chad Reuter on NFL.com gave the Pats a B- on Day One. Short arms and narrow shoulders!

Please make it stop.

Would love to steal Burden with this next pick but it seems like a pipe dream at this point. The Browns, Texans, Titans, and Raiders all pick before the Pats and all have a need for WR help. My guess is Houston gets him. Here’s how I’m seeing these next few play out assuming no trades:

33. Cleveland - TreVeyon Henderson
34. Houston - Luther Burden
35. Tennessee - Mike Green
36. Cleveland - Jalen Milroe
37. Las Vegas - Will Johnson

I’d take Jayden Higgins at that point if I’m in the Pats. This draft still has plenty of promising edge rushers that should still be around in the third, but is already running low on X-receiver types with WR1 upside, and assuming Burden is gone by then, Higgins is the best one left. He’s been compared to Nico Collins and we could certainly use a Nico Collins in this offense.
