DRAFT DAY DISCUSSION OFFICIAL 2023 Patriots Draft Day Discussion: Round 2/3

The Packers had the kind of draft the Pats could only dream about. D-line/LB Van Ness, TE Musgrave, WR Jayden Reed, TE Tucker Kraft. THEY know how to surround their young QB with some weapons. They know how to draft.

Well, usually the Pats **** up day one and atone for themselves day 2 and 3. They flipped the script, throw day 2 in the ****ter. And get ready for all of those 4th round picks to become 5th and 6th round picks, probably all defense too. Who needs offense.

Jeudy is not remotely available for day 3 options and yeah Downs is gone. Pats selected a player strikingly similar to: Dugger, Phillips, and Peppers at a pivotal 76, when having enough capital to move up. Tough

They better hope Thornton takes a huge second-year leap. Maybe BoB will use him properly...but that's asking a lot.

I still don't know who plays LT. It's baffling. Is BB hoping to pick someone off the scrap heap?

But, hey, the D will be a lot better next year..

I don't get the latest two picks. They're nice-to-have players and all but they don't fit a dire need. One of them should have been used on an offensive player.
Thornton was rated by BCG as a 4th round pick, so I wouldn't get my hopes too far up for him.

Maybe just maybe the Patriots will take a WR in the 4th round who overperforms instead of drafting more STers, punters and longsnappers.

It's not really asking a lot. He was a second Rd pick and it's his second season. Also he's getting much better coaching this year so I don't think it's unreasonable or asking a lot to expect him to get better.

They do need a kicker and punter so, that wouldn't surprise or upset me.

FWIW, Daniel Jeremiah absolutely loves this guy. Just called him his favorite player in the draft.

Who were Daniel Jeremiah's previous favorite players in the draft?

Also, I'm pretty sure we heard similar coping for Derek Rivers, Isaiah Wynn, etc. I swear every player has some type of article or tweet from a guy out there calling them the steal of the draft, a gem, etc.

Wonder who's gonna win the Worst 3rd Round award tonight...
Not the Patriots. Coverage lb/ss/fs who can play in just about every coverage Bill wants. This isn’t #%^ing Elandon Roberts. This is a player with potential to help elevate this defense to something special. I’ve wanted a coverage lb for 10 years now and we may have finally gotten one.

More tire pumping than a Shell station the first time the weather drops below freezing.

They're going to have to limit the opponent's points since Mac's going to have a guy flying in on his blindside every other play.

I don't think anyone is saying "why do we need this guy". It's where he was picked and the fact we have some big needs on offense.
He was picked exactly where he was ranked, and arguably has more value in our system than most. We need OT help. Rb, wr, IOL were addressed last year and in FA along with TE.

If we take ST in the 4th I'm going to lose my mind . There's a reason that the upcoming underclassman and bad upperclassman play special teams, because they lack ability. How Achord still has a job is shocking.

Holy crap. Raiders pick up my Beankie Tre Tucker at 100. I wanted the Pats to overreach pick him in the 4th, and thought he was probably going to be available in the 6th. That's 1 of my 5 WR binkies gone. I thought I was gonna go to bed tonight knowing all of them were gonna be available tomorrow. Wow.

Your going off of last years stats I assume? The one with a defensive coordinator that ran the offense plus the offensive line. I’ll bet you my fan card that Obrien and Klemm will make this team much more competitive than last years squad. And thats without rounds 4-7 which hasn’t happened yet.

Took a look at who is left, not happy with the picks tonight but freely admit I don’t know much, just was hoping for the future LT1 and someone who can take the top off the defense, or who can step up in 2024 if Henry or Gesicki leave. I think there are more than a few options with good upside, including at OT and WR. As always I will snap back to optimism. It’s not homerism and not blind faith in BB, it’s a life philosophy that allows me to enjoy things in life. Pessimism is a waste of time and energy

Almost impossible to get a stud receiver in rounds 4-7. It happens, but it’s extremely rare. They wasted chances in ANOTHER draft. They needed to hit a home run, and outside of say round one, they hit into a double play. Keion White may be a nice player, but ignoring a bad offense doesn’t help your team.

In free agency, they replaced Meyers with Schuster (slight upgrade) and Smith with Gesicki (good upgrade), but they lost Agholor and they ignored WR in FA when they could’ve upgraded their WR corps with great speed in Mecole Hardman (Jets got him) and Parris Campbell.

So now you’re dependent on the draft to upgrade your WR corps to an offense that may be able to compete. They STILL haven’t done that. Now we have to depend on 4th round offensive players to help our offense become a good offense ? Good luck with that. This draft screams Belichick and a 5-12 season in 2023, in Belichick’s last year in coaching (hate to see him go) and being a GM (Glad to see him go).

Our offensive Tackles still Suck, no matter the coach.

Pretty much any guy they pick from here to the end of the draft is going to be a developmental guy that's going to either play ST or limited snaps. They're not going to draft a starting LT in the remaining rounds.

If they can find a diamond in the rough, great, but statistically, they probably won't.
