DRAFT DAY DISCUSSION OFFICIAL 2023 Patriots Draft Day Discussion: Round 1

It is ok to ask questions, but this is a little weird - are you upset because he did something good and it worked out and they got their guy and picked up a 4th round pick...? Or am I reading it wrong?

The tweets essentially say they got the best DB and if that the case, the Patriots took a unnecessary risk all for a fourth round pick.

I think it's pretty straight forward.

So obviously they were happy with WHOEVER they got.

Which was my point to begin with.

I saw this tweet from Bruce and thought it was sarcasm:

I didn't expected to see a post here that fell into that category

Oh, you must mean THIS tape.

And ...

"Willing tackler who isn't afraid to get in the mix. Will front-up ball carriers and takes good angles in the open field."

Watching his tape I liked that he was not afraid to mix it up in the tackling department

I'm asking why Bill gets credit for both getting his guy and a 4th round pick.

We don't know that and even if he did, my point remains. Why risk it.

It's ok to ask questions.
He really might've just tried to screw the Jets. He wanted a CB. By trading down, he knew he'd get one, and the Steelers were taking B Jones. He probably asked the Steelers who they were taking.

Bro, if you're going to come after me all that I ask is that you do so with tape that disproves me. In this play, Gonzales allowed hands to achieve inside position on his breastplate, to be driven two yards off of his mark, take an angle towards the pylon, and then shoe-string the ball carrier to barely prevent a touchdown. Whereas in the coverage he had outside contain responsibility and was supposed to force the ball carrier inside to where his help was as that was the ball carriers second level read. That almost went for a touchdown because he gave up his outside shoulder and his athleticism made up for his poor technique, aggression, and overall play. You utter dumbass.

If Brian Branch is still there in rnd 2 I can see Bill going up for him.

Some of it is an educated guess based on need, and I'm sure there was more than one guy on their radar. But clearly, it ended up being the right move, and they have an additional pick to work with.

I definitely didn't like the move at the time.

Your pick of three really desirable players (if not more) and you trade down for a 4th?

I get it, any of the three will do, it's all a lottery so why not one more lottery pick, but man, there's something to be said for getting your choice instead of sloppy seconds.

In the end, being lucky is good, like how Mac fell to us at 15, but still...

Yet, the deal flipped strongly positive when the outcome was da Jete took it up the bum.

They took him but they must not have REALLY wanted him, they only KINDA wanted him... you only get credit for spending extra picks to go get your guy, not gaining extra picks and still getting a top 10 player... so really, Bill is stupid and shouldn't get any credit! .... wait, what?

Multiple players they were comfortable taking were on the board. If it was only Gonzalez you don’t make that deal.

Kincaid best pass catching TE in the Draft.

They likely did have a few guys they wanted, and it doesn't hurt that they ended up getting one of the best CB prospects. Definitely a good thing.

I know it was sarcasm, I just meant it was weird to actually see that reaction in real time. I saw a couple of people bring it up regarding Bill on Twitter also.

So is Bill getting criticized for draft style points now? How dare this freaking guy not commit to a player at 14 vs. trading back and getting a great prospect and more ammo simultaneously
