I just heard a college football studio analyst (didn’t catch who it was) say, while seeing Aaron Donald at the Pitt/ND game best all time DTs
1) Warren Sapp
2) John Randle
3) Aaron Donald

Not sure I even agree with the order of those 3 but also a recency bias leaving out guys like Mean Joe, Randy White, Merlin Olsen, Bob Lilly etc.

Seems like a good topic to discuss if anyone wants to

That seems about right to me. I'm sure there's someone else who probably deserves mention. I think mean Joe and the older guard obviously deserve there love but Sapp, Randle, and Donald are next level freaks.

Now if we want to talk all interior DL and include NT and 3-4 ends we could add in some other names. One with Patriot ties that comes to mind would be Ted Washington. Seymour too but I still probably give a small nod to you first 3. But then we also have to consider Watt and he might crack your 3 (again I'm sure I'm not thinking of everyone).

Randy White and Mean Joe were the original dominant freaks.

No way I put Sapp on too. I would actually put his 3 in reverse order.

My top 5 in order (and I am probably forgetting someone)
White
Donald
Greene
Randle
Lilly

List seems to favor folks who rush the passer from the interior line vs stopping the run

Does Wilfork deserve space? Those two-gap NT's don't have a lot of flashy stats, but names like him and Ngata are brought up as unsung anchors that should be considered in the discussion of "the best"

If we are talking college…Wilfork has to be in there. I’d put John Henderson at TN, and Jordan Davis at UGA. Those dudes were men among boys.

Anything pre, like 1990 I can’t speak to.

Understand he’s too small by today’s standards but Alan Page needs to be on any such list

My order would probably be Randle, Donald, Sapp.

I know it's not fair to the old guard but especially with the big guys I just think since about the 90s the speed and athleticism for size is crazy.

Cortez Kennedy
Jerome Brown (life cut short)
Buck Buchanan
Joe Klecko

Vita Vea anyone?

Is this best college or NFL tackles? I’m thinking college since you were watching a college studio show.

I'll go by the best that I've seen from the 90's on divided into two categories: Pass rushers and run stuffers. I know I'll be forgetting someone. In no particular order:

Run Stuffers:
Ted Washington
Pat Williams
Vince Wilfork
Kris Jenkins
Keith Traylor
Kevin Williams
Dana Stubbllefield
Vita Vea
Jason Ferguson
Haloti Ngata

Pass Rushers:
Warren Sapp
Aaron Donald
John Randle
Cortez Kennedy
La'Roy Glover
Bryant Young
Chris Jones
Geno Atkins
