Ochocinco on the difference between NE and other teams

In his book, Michael Holley went into it as well.

The dude never had to make sight adjustments in CIN.

Essentially he went from 9th grade algebra to Good Will Hunting ****.

Too bad he was the Ben Affleck guy.

Actually I would have been surprised if BB didn't give Tom a head's up about what he was going to do, and Tom probably said, "cool". Not that Bill was asking Tom's permission, but just being respectful enough to let him know what's about to happen.

Chad, was an elite receiver in this league with over 11,o00 yds receiving (IIRC). So it's not like he was some scrub. I always liked him, but it must have been like he was coming from another planet when he arrived here after playing all those years in Cinci, when they never asked him to make sight adjustments. Too bad he couldn't do it. Neither could Reggie Wayne. Once again it just shows that the skill set for WR's to excell in this system is NOT for everyone, and it makes drafting WR's even more tricky.

That being said, Chad was on the money in hammering home how the Pats practice at such a high level, and leadership comes from the top down. When you watch the post game locker room clips after each win, you can see how often BB references how what they did in practice reflects in how they played the game. He's always bringing home how important how they practice reflects on the results of the game.

The the first thing he said to the team was to Malcolm. "catch them in practice. Catch them in the game. And everyone cheered.

I get the feeling that the "catch them in practice Malcolm" quote came because they probably practiced catching long passes, just as they did prior to the Harbawl playoff game in 2014, when Duron Harmon ended the game with a pick on a long pass. Just as they did with Malcolm and Browner prior to the greatest defensive play in NFL history.

One of the greatest moments for a coach comes when you practice something specific and it comes up in a game. Once that happens you own the players.

There was a segment in one of the Brady videos, The Brady 6 maybe, where a counselor at Michigan was talking about Brady having a very strong respect for authority. That characteristic, and his huge football brain, are reasons why he and Belichick are such a great fit for each other.

Look at Skip coming in and saying "Did BB tell Brady he was going to do that before the meeting?"

Of course he didn't you dumbass! What a joke. In Skip's world where everything is contrived and needs a false narrative, stuff like that happens. But that's Skips world. He just can't accept that greatness requires accountability.
Well most of Skip's thing is an act.

This is a great illustration of why "is it about Brady or Belichick" debate misses the mark. It's like asking whether water is about hydrogen or oxygen.

Meanwhile...so in the rest of the NFL it's an unspoken rule that the coach doesn't criticize the QB in front of the team? But everybody else is fair game? Seriously?

odd that Chad thought running a play over and over again in practice until they got it right was over the top.....really?
Yes, because not every team in the NFL does that. This is what separates the greats from everyone else. So I could see how that was surprising to him or any other player who never experienced it. Fred Taylor said something along the same lines. He said that they worked hard in Jacksonville, but it was not even close to what he experienced in NE.

...and TB12's work ethic, toughness and football IQ helped him absorb and apply Bill's teachings.

If he was the second coming of Tony Eason none of this would have happened.
Not to mention that BB knows how important it is to keep that proverbial chip on TB12's shoulder forever.

You've been in locker rooms and team meetings and I haven't, so maybe you're right.

But my own personal read of Belichick and Brady is that their relationship is such that Belichick wouldn't feel the need to do that. He trusted that Brady would just figure that "that's what Coach needed to do" and, specifically, in the case of the Jets loss, "yeah I screwed up along with a lot of other people."

I like the Butler example/reminder.

It's incredible how stories like this from ex-players abound, yet everyone still says it's simply because they cheat. SMDH.

You know what's even more incredible @PatsBoy12 ? That someone decided that Skip and Shannon are worth watching.

All kidding aside, there are many reasons for ex-players to be bitter. Brady and Belichick have been around for a very long time. There are carcasses dressed in just about every NYFL uniform lying around football country.

I'm just glad that it's our team that they all hate.

Just had a thought. I wonder if during this presentation Belichick mentioned why Wes Welker wasn't on the field during the first quarter. "...OK, now usually on this third and long situation we might look to Wes to make a play. But he was on the bench. Everyone remember why? Yup. Couldn't keep his mouth shut about Rex Ryan's foot fetish so I suspended him. Oh, and there's an interception. Thanks, Wes."

wes was one of the guys who didn't appreciate belichick's approach. supposedly it was one of the reasons he chose denver over the patriots.

Welker endured playing under Belichick

(unfortunately the original story from SI isn't available online anymore, so we just have excerpts from other sites)

"It was just kind of hard," Welker said. "One of those deals where you have to endure him, put up with him . . . But he does it to everybody, it’s the way he is."

"When I’m answering questions from the Denver media, I’m not worried about what the Broncos’ people are going to think," Welker said "I’m worried about what Belichick will think. Isn’t that crazy?"

I've watched a quarter of non-Pats football here and there the last three weeks...and I'm amazed at how much lower the level of play is on other teams. You can see it in the coaching decisions. But that's what other fans are used to seeing. For example, a Detroit fan says, "I love my team. Stafford is my QB. And if we can't win with a gunslinger like that, then how the hell do the Patriots win all the time?"

They ignore the poor draft picks, dumb trades, bad signings, poor clock management, predictable play calling, and poor situational football. They think that's normal, and assume the Pats must do the same thing, but some sort of magic pixie dust gives the Pats wins....that or PSI, or cameras, or HGH, or Russian intelligence, etc

If Brady had been the second coming of Tony Eason, no way that Rehbein recommends drafting him..
Rehbein isn't in the Patriots Hall of Fame, but an argument could be made for including him.

Yeah! Great managers have different styles for different players. It is said that Red would never yell at Russell. When he was pissed at Russell, he'd yell at Heinsohn and Russell knew he was really yelling at him! :)
