"Nobody Wanted Them" Secondary

For brevity's sake, they should just be called " The Unwanteds" Sounds like the title of a Western movie. The trailer could go something like this: .....there was chaos in Foxboro town......teams passing up and down.....then they came to town...... "The Unwanteds"...... starring Devin McCourty, Pat Chung and Kyle Arrington..... introducing Philip Adams and Sterling Moore.

They made few mental mistakes - on 90% of the plays they were where they were supposed to be.

Intelligent play within the system and a much better pass rush helped a lot. That said, think about how many coverage sacks there were.

Other than the Giants, how me a defense that beats it biggest division rival in its house with three starting defensive backs out with injuries in the second half.

I find it more than a little disconcerting that I have more confidence in Sterling Moore than I do two guys who have been in the squad from day 1 of the preseason. Even more so that, based on Moore's PT sunday, BB does too.

I'd like to apologize for Moore's hit on McCourty. My pyschic powers were firing on all cylinders, and I took out all of my anger and frustration with McCourty's play out on him through Moore. He hasn't been playing horribly, per se, but his playmaking and presence on defense from 2010 did not join him when he came to training camp. Don't give me the 'he's not being targeted as much' hoopla because no one is avoiding him, and I can't even remember him breaking up one pass all season.

It seems the Pats have always had an unheralded secondary.

We're all rooting for the team that started undrafted CB Randall "Blue" Gay and Troy "I'm a WR but I can do anything" Brown in playoff runs a few years ago. Asante Samuel was a 4th rd pick. We started Ellis Hobbs for a while. McCourty is the first high pick CB to be acquired since Ty Law and the 5yd bump rule change.

Traditionally Belichick's defense has relied on strong thumper safeties like Rodney Harrison and Lawyer Milloy, which makes sense. They play a symetrical position in the center of the field. I don't think Belichick ever bought into the whole "shut down the entire left part of the field" hype around so called shutdown corners. Of course, that changed a bit with the investment in McCourty and the lack of pick up in our safety department.

But winning with a mostly no-name secondary? That's as Belichick to me as the 38 and 39 superbowls. Good job Pats and hope to see more.

I like the idea of the name, but you'd have to leave DMcC and Chung off the list--especially considering the fact that they were both very high picks, many certainly wanted them, and they aren't even currently playing.

It was due to the pass rush..they don't get that pass rush..sanchez may have 406 not 306..still did a good job however

I'll grant you the pass rush improved, but a couple of those sacks and a few throw aways by Sanchize we because of coverage. A good pass rush will definitely help a young inexperienced secondary. I think Arrington has had a very good year. Molden actually played better than McCourty (thats not saying much). Are they really good, no ... but give them some time and experience against inferior teams that we are playing over the next 6 weeks and we just might have something here!

Meh, just call it a re-make of "The No Name Defense"

Unfortunately the original is a proven classic... so far we've just seen the trailer for the re-make (even though we like it because it's set in NE.)

Did anyone notice....that the 2 DT were stunting ...alot more ...instead of going straight ahead? One thing ..that was pointed out on the sports hub by Tony Mazz .... the Jets receivers are not all scrubs....Santonio Holmes (long of 27) and Dustin Keller (long of 29) are good players...and we held them each under 100 yards...so you have to give our secondary Kudos for slowing them down. I also see alot more energy from our younger D-linemen.....how much did they play?
