No Defensive Back? Strange roster decisions.

Reid just resigned with Indy.

Why worry about roster decisions that BB makes. Surely he knows better than we do

Our secondary is fine and James Sanders isn't even close to being a midget. Honestly, are you drunk or something?

I don't drink. I am being a little silly in this thread cause it's just a catchall at a slow time thread. I am very happy and optimistic but.....

When Sanders had to pick up thecoverage on Javon Walker from Samuel and totally blew it he and Asante were isolated. Walker is very tall.

But Sanders looked smaller than Asante. Do you think Sanders is 5'10" 210?

I don't. Of course the fact that he was wandering around while Walker blew by him might have had something to do with it. I don't see Sanders making the club next year, myself.

- Spann = #5 CB (He was a ball hawk in NFLE with 3 ints, he is a taller CB like Blue and Chad, but he doesn't have Chad's weight. Think about this, in 2004, about midseason, Randall "Blue" Gay was forced into the starting lineup by injury, he helped win a Superbowl playing against an injured Terrel Owens who was held scoreless.

Right now our biggest concern should be Keegs not being able to watch the game Monday night at work - you know how cranky he gets when he can't see Rodney hitting people...

Had to crop it Box. Fine post. Thanks for the info on Spann. Hopefully he could play some corner in a pinch, but if NFLE was the measure Rohan would be playing in his 3rd ProBowl.

Gay was a great story, while they knew Hobbs had talent he was just short. Don't we tend to only remember the good stuff in hindsight, though?

I have two words for you Earthwind Moreland.

I think I've made my point.

To the important part. Keegs should definitely drink the syrup. Not only will he be able to watch the game in comfort, but this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

He gets to decide in what direction he launches lunch. It's a free pass. He can blamelessly project over his most reviled co-worker. Ooops. Sorry. :eat2:

Harumph, Earthwind struggled and gave up some big plays, but he helped hold things together until they could get Asante back, Troy up to speed, and found Hank Poteat in time for the playoffs. The kid earned a ring playing over his head, I'll take that anyday.

I think OL is important enough position to have reserves on the PS, it is a bit of a surprise that there is no CB on the list but I bigger surprise in that they have a punter on the PS.

I am too lazy to check but I bet he is the only punter on a practice squad. It looks like some other guys are getting a look, Jackson was back to return a punt at the end of the last game.

Secondary - I think with all the cross training, players who can play multiple spots Wilson, Scott, Hawkins, Andrews (Andrews as a CB for a couple of years in college) combined with the shadow squad (Shulters, Strait, etc.) they feel ok. If someone goes on IR there will be moves and maybe a practice squad spot will change but no urgency at this point.

Just trying to figure out how we managed to lose Poteat and end up with no replacement and no DB on the practice squad.

Can Spann or Iwouma actually play DB?

Are they counting on Sanders? He looks like a midget out there. Does anyone think he has a better chance then Gus Scott or Dexter Reid.

Even with the promotion of Yates we have 3 OL on the PS.

What happened to Gene Mf#@st*ski? Is he gone?

Why do we still need 2 WR on the PS?

Thoughts?

I think sme of the reason for PSd players is to be ablr to have the right players for practice..just another take on it..many reason of course..but is it my imagination or is it that when Yates is activated FROM the PSqd, they replace him with a OLineman. Obviously, there was some reason dor the 3 OL before. Bubin is one I think they wanted in the draft and was missed..so with a chance to have him as a developmental tackle..why not??
Spann may become a good DB..and I loved the way he was in NFLE..before he got hurt. I think he has potential. I saw a hit he made as a CB that was Rodneyesque..so he's a hitter. ST as well. Sanders is still learning..and it may take him time to get it all. I know he looked horrible in that Denver game..but recall Hawkins was oiut..so he had to play. Gay alsi may be good next year..worries about him is more injury than anything else. Maybe Miller has been dinged up some..and that is why they are keeping him..maybe they also think he may be a player in years to come..who knows.

I added numbers to make it easier to answer you questions. I too wondered about the cutting of Poteat and Mruc.

1) Iwoume is strictly a Ster: I think the answer is no for him.
Spann is being compared to other #4 corners we've had. I think that this is an irrelevant comparison. If there were injuries, Spann could have been activated from the Practice Squad; no other team was picking him up. I see no advantage of have Spann as an inactive or DNP instead of being on the Practice Squad. We gave up a roster spot for this priviledge. The spot could have been used for Poteat, Mruc, Childress or someone else. If we valued Spann so much, we could have signed a $425K a year contract with him and guaranteed it. Why use up one of his years for now reason. If he is a good practice, let's keep him for an extra year as an ERFA.

2) Sanders was our nickel last year. I like him a lot on Special Teams. He played nickel ahead of Poteat last year. Sanders is much more already valuable than Guss Scott or Reid were in their entire careers. The issue is dime back or nickel or corner if there is an injury. Poteat had considerable playing time down the stretch last year, and he played reasonably well.

3) I like dante's developmental squad of three OL's. It is now an eight-man squad with plently of room.

4) Mruc is gone. To me, that means that Yates can play center now, and Stevenson has the potential to play center.

5) Keeping two wide receivers with potential on the Practice Squad makes sense to me. Maybe one will replace Brown if he retires after the year, or there is an injury, or if one of Gaffney doesn't work out, or if Caldwell doesn't work out.

mg and #1 = NEM (stupid coaches, fans know best)

My only concern is DB's last year. DB's the year before. DB's the second half of the Carolina Super Bowl.

I know Sanders has played nickle. Could he play corner in a pinch? I don't see him as a starting safety.

With Rodneys age and injury and Eugene's ennui, (even if my post stinks you got a vocabulary word out of it ), where are the big hitters coming from?

You must understand. There is no injury issues. And if anyone gets hurt, we'll use Spann or Brown or bring up Childress. Everyone would much rather have these players at corner, rather than Poteat. It is a matter of trusting bb. He knows the injury issues, and he know who will get hurt and who will not. And if we lose in the playoffs because of injuuries, we can simply blame the offense.

Who'd rather have Childress than Poteat at DB. Not me.

BTW, I'm not bemoaning Poteat as much as hoping they'll sign one of those guys they tried out.
