Content Post N'Keal Harry (lack of) Progress Report

This has an opening post with good commentary and information, which we definitely recommend reading.

Fake news. I wrote that other the Onwenu, some posters were already labeling the ***2020 DRAFT*** a bust, just as several had labeled Asiasi and Keene busts even earlier in the season, despite ample evidence that it often takes 2 full seasons of development for TEs to become impactful players (with examples from 2019 draft and this year’s draft). I honestly didn’t pay close enough attention to your reply, to see your request for examples, but I’m sure that others here read and remember the posts to which I was referring. It shouldn’t be shocking to anyone that Captain Stone was responsible for one of the posts.
Missed this. I said season when I meant to say draft. Can you locate the posts? I’d love to see them.

Walter White, your (typical) butthurt has been duly noted.

That being said...I liken N'Keal's presence on the team as my attitude toward my coworkers: it's beyond my control whoever else my bosses employ. I will always hope my coworkers step up or be cut...but if they're going to remain, I'll always pull for them to better themselves. This board's majority opinion toward N'Keal borders on the ridiculous and deranged peevish. BB has full control over these matters, and I believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that he has proven himself worthy of the title.
Butthurt over what? You sound like the one who’s butthurt. I heaped praise on Harry’s touchdown yesterday because he did exactly what I’ve been wanting him to do. So I’m not sure what I’m butthurt about. Your butthurt is showing, though. When are you going to follow through on your word that “you’ve quit watching football because of all the politics?” Because, at least to me, it looks like you’re watching more football than ever before. Even enough to drop some coin on a Harry jersey.

It was a cheap knock-off...but thanks for asking!! A cheap knock-off--kind of like certain posters!! Or should I say posers?
Thrifty as well as witty. You're the total package!

To be honest Harry basically shoves the guy past the 5 yards of scrimmage. But whatever. He's playing for a job at this point, I get it.
That route and physicality on that TD catch by Harry was what Gronk used to do. The other TD catch he had earlier this year was also a similar Gronk-like route and catch. He should have more of these same passes to him in the red zone. Let him use his physicality.
Which is why I say the only chance he has of sticking is if they take the offseason to turn him into a H/TE. He's not fast enough for a WR, and he doesn't separate on the outside. But he does block very well, moves in space, has good hands - especially when contested, knows how to use his body, and has shown a knack in the EZ. So, at 6'4" 225, it'd only take another ~20 lbs to be a decent TE. He could compete with Keene, Asiasi next year.

The ball was on the 5. He was hit by the DB between the one and the goal line. He extended his hands when he got hit and simultaneously turned on his dig route. That's his job. Pretty good play if you ask me.

He’s really going to show the haters today, though, by wearing a Harry jersey... get this... IN NEW ENGLAND! Wow. So brave. I haven’t seen an act that heroic since Pat Tillman.

A bright flash to me would be 7-8 catches for 100 yards and a TD.
Agree but hopefully this is a start. It was a simple hitch route but I liked the physicality at the top of the route. Hopefully Bill highlights that in film review and teaches him how to use his body on the rest of his routes.

Over a 2 week span and with passes caught more than 2 yards beyond the line of scrimmage. It would spark a tiny flame of hope.

I am just happy there are signs of life from him. If he can just develop into a guy who can muscle his way open in the red zone then I am fine with it at this point.

Ok, what would count as a "bright flash" for Harry? 2TDs? 3TDs?
Well let’s put it this way. The Jets are likely going 0-16. They have a QB who missed games and is likely losing his job.

Their best receiver has 503 yards on 40 receptions band 5 TD’s

Harry has 228 yards on 26 receptions and 2 TD’s.

Byrd, Meyers, Edelman, and White have more yards than him. Of those 4 only Edelman who missed significant playing time has less receptions. He is however second behind Burkhead in receiving TD’s.

It clearly goes beyond what he’s working with

If any of the receivers do that it will look way more than a flash of light, more like a nuclear explosion. The passing offensive has only (approx.) 200 yards combined the last two weeks.
Unless they are forced to stop running the ball, I'll gladly take 2 for 15 and a TD especially with a blowout on the road in such a hostile environment, their fans were louder than usual yesterday.

We have a qb who is averaging 75 yards a game the last two games, and you think the only way Harry flashes is to get 33% more yardage then our qb is averaging? He had 2 catches for 15 yards and a td. Meyers had 2 catches for 15 yards and one very bad drop, and Byrd had 2 catches for 16 yards. Neither of them scored a td. Harry may end up sucking but our qb is complete and total ass at throwing right now. The only wr who did better was Gunner with Stidham, he had 1 td and 1 reception for 38 yards.

To me it looks like the coaching staff knows he can't throw the ball and this is what the offense is going to be. Obviously that doesn't bode well for any development for Harry but Harry also seems to be the third receiver and his playing his way further down the depth chart seemingly each week.

But there is development and there are statistics. Complaining a wr isn't catching 8 passes and getting 100 yards, when your team's game plan is to run the ball and throw an occasional screen doesn't make any sense. Nkeal catching that freaking cannon throw of 5 yards from Cam, in the endzone was an improvement. If he is only great at catching in the redzone he is still an important player for this team, because it seems no one else can.

I am not complaining he isn't lighting it up the way this offense is currently constructed. Someone asked what a flash would be and I gave my version of a "flash". My issue with Harry is less about stats now as no one is going to have great stats with a QB who cant throw and manages 120 passing yards a game. My issue with Harry is that he has lost snaps to an UFA and a journeyman when he is a first round pick. If he can develop and become a red zone threat I will take it. If he can catch a couple of passes a week I will take it. Beggars cant be choosers with the 2020 Patriots passing game.

Lemme guess, the Harry, Bill the GM never makes a bad pick crowd thinks Harry's an all pro bc he caught a TD where he clearly pushed off?
