NFL Trade Deadline Discourse

And with Olave, I would want to know how he got his concussions. He has had some really bad QBs throwing to him. How many of the concussions are because his QB threw him a coffin ball putting him a position to be laid out? Maye has been really good at not putting his receivers in position to be laid out with a big hit right after catching the ball for the most part. So the concussion issue with Olave could end up being a non-factor if he came to the Patriots.
It doesn’t matter how he got them. I believe conventional medical wisdom is that each concussion increases the likelihood of subsequent concussions. So if a player has had multiple severe concussions, as Olave and Tua have had, it doesn’t take as much to give them the next one. That means Olave doesn’t have to catch a hospital ball to be knocked out of the lineup, just a routine tackle is increased risk. It’s an unacceptable risk to his ability in the most important area, availability, IMO. We would be paying a premium price for him and that risk he’s unavailable makes it not worth the price as far as I’m concerned.

Here’s an off the wall idea…

NFL trade deadline: Mason Rudolph leads 3 Steelers who could be dealt soon

Because…

I found some interesting things chasing tangents from the thread about Luke Maye’s Senior Day oration.

I hadn’t realized Drake’s dad Mark Maye was on Tampa Bay’s PS for a year. He’d been starting QB for UNC for a couple of years, but a torn labrum in his throwing arm derailed his career.

Interesting connection from those days was his college roommate, a LB named Brett Rudolph. They remained very close friends after college, raising their families in the same area of NC. Drake’s older brother Luke played a lot of backyard basketball against Rudolph’s son Mason.

Yep, Mason Rudolph was a family friend. So not only was Drake getting coached by Josh McCown in high school, he was hanging with other NFL QBs as a teenager.

Here’s the story, gives some interesting family history. Plus there is even a cameo appearance by Josh Dobbs, competing with Mason Rudolph for the Steelers job.

‘That’s my boy!’: The brotherly bond between Steelers QB Mason Rudolph and Tar Heels hero Luke Maye

I agree. Let's make it a priority to draft one in 2026. There are a bunch this time in the draft.
Trying get your opinion: why am I underwhelmed with Gonzo and Davis? I haven't seen Gonzo make a play of impact since Buffalo. Seems like Davis is only noticeable when he gets called for PI. Am I overreacting? I just felt with having 2 great man coverage CBs it would have the pass defense elite. Marcus has probably been the best CB IMO. Gonzo is still an all pro and I don't think any less of him.. just underwhelmed.

He's been concussion free this season so far FTR: Olave would be sick here he's a volume catcher. On the verge of being a great receiver with good health. That said I heard the Saints are planning to extend him. Olave have been over a 1000yds receiver a year When healthy.

Twin.. you know how it goes.. recency fan bias.. if one of our WR's have a good game they will say we don't need wr help.. even when Diggs had that big game against Buffalo i still wanted at least one more guy.. our passing game has been efficient under Josh.. Vrabel still looking to add tells us everything..

Olave is who we hope Williams becomes.
K Williams is faster Ross... Kyle Williams ceiling should be like a Steve Smith: catch it and take it to the house. KW and Maye seems to be slightly off Boutte and Tarzan runs those same routes completions: KW same routes incompletions. Really hope KW gets' his act together: a QB on the verge of being Elite is throwing to him.

Every pass to K Williams is over his head or incomplete.. I can't understand it.. Tarzan catching K Williams passes..

You know Me Twin: if we can get another accomplished Receiver I would move on from KW. How do you feel about Meyers?? I think he would feast with Maye underneath.

Twin.. I like JM.. and he should have still been a Patriot.. but he would probably have asked for a trade playing for jerod rust Last year.. we would have to move someone at wr.. probably pop?

Saw that kinda disturbing...it's like Maye is turning Tarzan Mack Hollins into a player to my surprise. Williams was very accomplished coming out he checked all the Boxes. He needs to start showcasing those abilities.

I was wondering too, Gonzo seams to have gone off the boil, perhaps deep down he is still worried about his injury.

Yes.. Tarzan is a veteran and familiar with Josh system so he has advantages. But K Williams has the talent. I know he's a rookie.. but we need some production out of him.. both our high draft picks Henderson and k Williams are on the field but not producing.

Get Hendrickson, White is a bum.
Agreed sadly. The production just is not there. I doubt Hendrickson is available now though the Bengals arent gonna be sellers. They got the Jets next week and will probably be .500.

It does matter how he got the concussions. If he is getting concussions because his QB is throwing him hospital balls, then he is far less likely get a concussion if he has a QB who doesn't put him in dangerous situations.

Yes, he is more likely to have a serious concussion if he gets another concussion than other players, but the way Maye is playing, he doesn't put his receivers in position to take unnecessary shots to the head. And Olave isn't a WR who lives on running in traffic over the middle.

He isn't a RB or a LB or QB who either hits a lot or gets hit a lot hitting head on. As X WR, he is usually going out of bounds or getting pulled down from behind and not getting hit with a guy coming at him full speed. It happens, but far less than other positions. I think it is less of a concern for him than other positions.

In all reality, we probably should be more concerned about the concussions that Maye has been getting than Olave's concussions if the Pats traded for him. Maye plays a position and plays a style that will open him to far more chances for more concussions.

And I don't think Olave will command that much in a trade. Maybe a second rounder at most. And Olave has his fifth year option.

But then again, I am not sure if I even want them to trade for Olave. I just don't think the concussions could be as big of a concern as people make them.

White is a huge disappointment. He at least had production last season I don't think he even has one sack registered this season. If we weren't as thin in the front 7.. I think Vrabel would have moved him already.

I was listening to White talk about his no nonsense approach. No frills. Run through someone. I dont think he has enough creativity to be truly impactful. Everyone in the L is a beast. Hard to just overpower people at this level. You have to be sneaky. Thats not White.

I don't think that's right. Williams ran a 4.40 forty, I think Olave was clocked at around 4.25. Though they tend to use Shaheed as their "speed" guy, so not sure if that forty time has necessarily translated to the field.
