NFL to Hire Sarah Thomas as First Female Official

It seems like the 2 knee jerks reactions to this are (1) "oh well, they hired a chick, no big deal" or (2) this is some sort of Jackie Robinson-like break through hire. I think people are overlooking the bigger problem: she is going to be immune from criticism regardless of how poorly she performs her job. She cannot be fired unless she does something really egregious (like being caught in a "Donaghy" like betting scandal).

This hire is nothing more than the NFL appeasing the lowest common denominator/PC thugs at the expense of the integrity of the game.
