14 Mil guaranteed is the key number. That's pretty good
It's ok, given the environment but the overall number is still lower than we were lead to believe.

Reiss wrote last summer that the Patriots offered $5m in easily earned incentives for last year and it would've taken Gilmore to $12m.

But they were also discussing an extension above the $14m that Gilmore averaged with the Patriots.

They never agreed.

I can only assume that Gilmore wanted more than $14m a year, a lot more, so the value of that offer had to be $28m at least.

Any way you cut it, Gilmore is getting less. And mind you the Patriots were negotiating with an injured Gilmore. This is different. This is what a healthy Gilmore has signed for.

This pisses me off, but it's hard to blame the Patriots for not giving him big $$$. Gilmore shot himself in the foot while shooting his way out of New England.
The Patriots offered him more than this.

Reiss said they offered near $5m in incentives for last year as part of an extension. Gilmore was looking for a higher average on his next contract (he averaged over $14m with the Patriots). If you add the incentives to the higher average, he would have made a lot more money by staying in New England. It's a clear example of a player and agent misjudging his own market.

Yeah I don't blame the Pats. Other than RBs, DBs age the fastest in the sport. He probably has 2 more solid years of elite play left

23m with 14 guaranteed is a lot of money for a 32-year-old CB who's only played 19 games over the last 2 years.

But Gilly isn't just ANY CB.

With Ryan at the helm and Taylor running behind that monster OL they've assembled, they're going for their division right now, and I think they might have leapfrogged TN, who seem like a team on the backside of their run.

I hate the Colts viscerally, but they've built a really good squad from the trenches out. Gilmore, if he's got anything left, is a really good get for them. The only caveat is that he played for the Panthers last year. They've got plenty of CAP and reports were that he wanted to play there. They could have matched/beaten that contract and they saw his last 8-game run.

Does this contract mean that Gillmore would have garnered a 3rd round comp pick if the Pats kept him the entire year?
potentially.. Remember that they used the money to bring in Collins and for injuries.

Collins is a enigma too me.
Sometimes he looks like the best player on the field and other times he’s invisible.

LOL at Gilmore taking significantly less than what the Patriots offered him to extend.

The guy played himself out of several million dollars.

When people say the Patriots are cheap, they don't see the flipside of it.

Teams max out their salary caps and leave a bunch of players to take much much much less than they were otherwise worth.

And we know Gilmore's market or worth was much higher than this because the Patriots offered him more.
It's a Shame we got next to nothing for him considering we had him at the height of his career. That said baring injuries the Colts are going to be a really good Team. They have a lot of key pieces Ryan with that RB add another good WR and watch out!

Well it seems like Gilly didn't like the Beli way like Gronk.

Elite play? Not sure what you mean - could mean a lot of things - but Gilmore's "top of the league" playing days are behind him. The contract at $11M a year indicates that the whole league recognizes a drop off in ability (Ramsey is making $21M a year), and the Panthers after trading for him did not want to keep him at $11M a year (Gilmore's home is in the Carolinas). Sure seems like Gilmore, and people on PatsFans, misjudged his market.

Elite play as in pro bowl level.

He's not going to be 2017-2019 level anymore that was HOF level play

I don't know if his play last year would even constitute "Pro-Bowl" level play. He gave up 2 TDs on 25 targets.. Considering that he'd given up just 1 in the past 150 prior to that..

It's going to be interesting to see just how well Gilmore plays this year. If it's close to Pro-Bowl level, then the Colts got a gem.. If last year was an indicator, then he's become a liability.

I do not think we will see Gilmore playing at a Pro Bowl level. Byron Jones is making $16M+ and made the Pro Bowl once in 2018, not since. $11M+ as a free agent indicates that the 32 GMs in the league do not see Gilmore at Pro Bowl level of play going forward. Revis and Talib fell off significantly at/after 32. But Brady defied the age barrier, so you could be right - we will see.

I am not sure what Gilmore is anynore. Even before he was injured in 2020, he wasn't remotely close to the DPOY he was the year before. And last year, he had a couple of big plays early with Carolina but wasn't ever a shutdown CB. But that could have been because of injuries.

Odds are good he will be considerably less than what he was in 2019 this upcoming season. But will it be 80-90% of 2019 or 60-70% or less?

I assume this means the Pats are moving Peppers to LB.

The Pats need to be savants in this area…better then everyone else.
