whatever.

You ignore guaranteed money.

Believe what you will. Carr will NOT get $140M this year. He is guaranteed nothing next year unless he is injured. The Raiders can simply cut him with ZERO dead money if he doesn't perform. He certainly can be cut after two years.

You are correct. I don't believe that spending $29M this year on Carr is a poor use of cap money.

OTC contradicts you:
"65.2 million is guaranteed of which $24.9 million is guaranteed at signing. If Carr is on the roster on the 3rd day of the waiver period in 2023, his 2023 base salary and $7.5 million of his 2024 base salary will be guaranteed."

The Pats second level fell apart at the end of the year. HT and Collins ran out of gas, and Van Noy started trying to do too much, it seemed.

And the third level was hampered by injuries when it mattered. JC hurt his elbow in the same game he dropped an easy ick that would have given them a chance against Buffalo. J Jones was gone, of course. Dugger got hurt and was playing hurt, Mills was a big loss in the playoff game, and McCourty played too many snaps and wore down.

Also, that LB corp was simply too slow. That's not going to be the case this year. The DL was inconsistent and missing at least one piece.

Yes, they need to be better. Losing JC hurts, but having a light and fast second line of good tacklers matters a lot now.
Van Noy was doing his own thing. Like he did to start the year. He got burned bad against Dallas and the same thing happened in the last 2 games against Buffalo.

I agree with you in regards to Dugger and DMac and in regards to the losses of Mills and Jonathan Jones. We had no reliable slot corner to put in. I would be astonished if the Pats didn't try Wade there in practices.

I agree in regards to Hightower.

I didn't want Collins back at all. He had all of ONE good play and was non-existent otherwise. And he was partially responsible for the Punt Block in Indy.

Do you understand what the Ehrhardt-Perkins system is? It's NOT the plays themselves. It's the process used for setting the terminology of the plays.

Ever notice how you twist your interpretation of a post so you can correct posters in your response? It is a much better forum if posters do not have to explain themselves in detail to avoid being corrected. Just a hint.

Believe what you will. If Carr is healthy, he can be cut the day after the Super Bowl. The difference is a 2023 guarantee FOR INJURY ONLY. This is essentially an insurance policy for Carr in case he is injured.

============
Carr just wanted to paid fairly while he is a Raider. He has said that he will retire as a Raider, so he accepted a relatively low guarantee.

Except I'm not actually twisting anything. You're the one who's statements imply you don't actually know what the E-P System actually is.

The forum is much better when people actually know what they are talking about and don't spew garbage pretending that it's fact. Then they don't have to worry about explaining themselves in detail or being corrected. Just a hint.

I can’t say I expected Gilmore to end up in a primarily cover 3 defense.

LOL at Gilmore taking significantly less than what the Patriots offered him to extend.

The guy played himself out of several million dollars.

When people say the Patriots are cheap, they don't see the flipside of it.

Teams max out their salary caps and leave a bunch of players to take much much much less than they were otherwise worth.

And we know Gilmore's market or worth was much higher than this because the Patriots offered him more.

The Gilmore ship sailed a few years ago. There was no way he was coming back here.

14 Mil guaranteed is the key number. That's pretty good

Does this contract mean that Gillmore would have garnered a 3rd round comp pick if the Pats kept him the entire year?
Not even close to a 3rd, even before knowing the contract details.
