Believe what you will. Carr will NOT get $140M this year. He is guaranteed nothing next year unless he is injured. The Raiders can simply cut him with ZERO dead money if he doesn't perform. He certainly can be cut after two years.

Why are the raiders the only team whose player expenditure decisions have nothing to do with their success?
You either think Carr will lead them deep into the playoffs (which means they are going to be on the hook for 40 mill a year) or they have no chance and can piss the money away. Neither makes much sense.

I think it depends on the development of Mac Jones. Also depends on injuries.

On paper, Adams, Waller, and Refroe are formidable, and I think Carr is pretty good.

I also think the Pats can put 5 pretty good receivers on the field, with depth behind them, this year.

Aside from all that, tHis wasn’t the point of my first response. The Pats gave a tone of guarantees - for 50 years of service. You can’t look at contract cap hits in a vacuum - what was Agholor’s hit last year?

My thoughts exactly. This isn't about the Patriot Way not being good, but about not trying to copy it to the point you're no longer coaching the way that's best for you. Trying to be Bill Belichick is a bad idea for anyone that isn't Bill Belichick, much the same way I don't think Bill would be as effective any other way either. Neither is better, but you have to be genuine or the players won't buy in.

The Patriot Way is whatever the person who is speaking wants it to be. If person #1 thinks the Pats are frugal and withhold bonuses, then the Patriot Way is to be cheap. If person #2 thinks the Pats bend every rule possible, then the Patriot Way means cheating.

To me, the Patriot Way is something that Tedy Bruschi coined back in the day. To me, it's a team first, individual second ethic. It's hard work and work hard. It's a focus on details and doing the little things that other teams don't do in order to win. It's being prepared, mentally and physically, to do your job.
