It does make me wonder though if the Saints are gearing up to take a chance on one of the QB's in this draft. They're not as highly lauded as the class last year, but if you've got two picks in the teens, using one on a QB and hoping for the best isn't a bad gamble.

Interesting. I’m not a fan of this from the eagles side.
How so? They traded down 2 spots from 16 to 18, added a 1st round pick in 2023 and a 2nd round pick in 2024 plus 2 additional picks this year. This actually helps them from a salary cap perspective in terms of that 5th year option. And it's likely that the Saints wont be play-off contenders, so they're looking at that pick being in the top 14..

The picks are the cars sight unseen. Might be a good car at a good price.

Thats cutting. Restructure is when a player still has value but not at the level he was under the original deal.
At some point it catches up.

I know NYG are interested in trading their 7th pick, so maybe the Saints are getting enough ammo to move up into the top 10 for a QB like you said.

The bill always comes due eventually though. Either they reach a point where the player can't/won't restructure and all the money they've pushed hits that year's cap, or they restructure and extend, and when the player eventually retires there's a dead cap hit leftover. There's no move that can be made on a contract (barring the player agreeing to tear it up and take a pay cut, ala Henry Anderson), that just makes cap hits disappear entirely.

That's kind of a weird swap, especially before the draft has actually started. I wonder how they landed at these terms. Seems more complicated than it needs to be.
Suggests that the Saints wanted 16&19 to later trade up into the top 10

Saints moving up is the only thing that makes sense.

I remember a few months ago everyone said this was the weakest draft for QB. Now we may see 6 or 7 in the first 20 picks.

A quality QB on a rookie contract is the most valuable thing to have. If you hit, it's an automatic 4-6 years of consistent success until the cap ramifications finally catch up on the second contract

I thought there were more picks heading the opposite direction from Philly. My bad. I misread the original report.

Bengals took 2 years to rebuild and get to the supe bowl

Bills took 3 years to get to the AFC Championship game

But we have to wait until year 4 in 2023 for us to be a contender. And what's actually gonna change? Will the Bengals and Bills and Chargers go away?

Will other teams not rise up?
We haven't played a down of year 2 with our qb.

The sweet spot begins in year 3 of the qb's rookie deal (or year 2 if he's a fast learner).

Nevermind, missed the 19th. Carry on.

Why would you be waiting for 2023? The Chargers haven’t made the playoffs in 3 years and have made it once in the last 8.
The bengals just had their first winning season in 6 years, with the same record as the patriots in a weaker division.

Philly giving up two picks they got in the Wentz tradew to the Colts
