Some AJ Brown news:

Sometimes statements like this are the kiss of death. Like Pete Carroll saying "Russell Wilson isn't going anywhere". That said, it doesn't make a lot of sense for them to move him, unless they think they're not competing for the next couple years and they can get a massive haul. But I can't see Vrabel signing off on that mentality (if he has a choice).

This is a great article explaining how the Saints/Rams and other cap stressed teams being able to sign players. A former team president wrote this

I personally don’t think any receiver besides Moss , Rice, Johnson’s Calvin and Andre, are worth that kind of coin.

No way.

I think there is an expectation in all these big receiver deals that the cap will continue to rise making the deals a lot less onerous on the back end.

This happened a couple years ago in the nba, every deal signed looked too big but it was because everyone was viewing things in the lense of the old cap we were used to. I expect the nfl will follow suit with the new media deals.

I’m not a huge wise fan. Would like flowers brought in to replace him and at least one edge drafted to supplement him.

So far they restructured Henry Anderson and Wise. My assumption is that it makes more sense to push future salary for a player you expect on the team long term but these two moves so far tell the opposite story.

If that's the way to League is trending it's now beneficial to get one or two on a Four year contract. Even if you cash in on their greatness for two years given the learning curve most times. We know Rookie years are no guarantees. We have to figure that Agholor and Meyers are getting walking papers after this year so having a couple of Rookies even if we stash them with the Foxborough flu for a year is good thing. So even with Parker WR is still definitely a Need going into the Draft.

i agree Wise and Anderson did not show they are starting caliber players so far. Of Course Anderson was injured i know but he did not flash in camp and played late fourth quarter in preseason games. They are nice back ups but not starters.

I don't think Wise is a bad player he just needs the help along the DL to make him better. Another attacking DT would be nice along with Barmore and a possible Flowers addition good DL right there.

I would say you could use that cap hit to field 3 really good receivers in total vs one player.
If Bourne continues his progression he will be a absolute steal of a free agent signing.
Really to succeed in the salary cap era of the NFL you need to have a rookie receiver and QB under their rookie contracts so you can build around the rest of the team.
With this line of thought in mind, the Bengals are in the best spot to compete for the next 4 years.
If your Number 1 receiver isn’t top 15 and you don’t feel they will grow the best thing to do is trade them to a team for a mid to high pick to start the process over again.
Same thing with the QB if he isn’t top 15 when the rookie contract ends draft another prospect. You have to have a balanced team at all positions.
There is something to be said about continuity I get the value in that.
I feel that we are seeing rookies coming catching fire at QB and receiver this is why I will argue your draft evaluators are the most important people on the team besides your Headcoach.
The fact we bumbled so many picks shows just how great the combination of Bill plus Tom really was.
I feel a lot better with Groh and Wolf and pray that stays together in the post BB years.

I would say mostly Tom right there the GOAT covered up a lot of deficiencies and that's a fact. We can't make a lot of mistakes going forward because we're going pay for them on field as we have seen after his departure.
