rankings are too much influenced by schedule. The defense wasn't nearly as good as those rankings imply imo. Against good teams with injuries they did not look top 5
By DVOA (and weighted DVOA) the Pats were the #4 defense, #3 vs the pass and #10 vs the rush. That's opponent adjusted.

The Bills were the highest DVOA variance team in the league last year -- look at their stinker vs Jax -- and the Pats weren't much better at #30.
The season ended with the Bills hot and the Pats cold and that's all anyone remembers.

Patriots need to shore up the OL. At least 2 needs to be selected in draft.
Patriots does very well on OL in mid/late rounds.

BTW - They stink in 1st/2nd round on WRs/CBs...

the most important differences in the pats defense were struggles against good teams and coming out flat when the game started. It seems they always needed to adjust the plan after the first drive and they had struggles against more physical teams. That's why i am pumping for a guy like Travis Jones and a DE like Trey Flowers. Maybe thinking about a Hicks return idk.

I would love to bring Hicks back.

I would love to bring Hicks back.
flowers-Hicks-Travis Jones- Judon with God and Barmore rotating

or Hicks-God-Barmore-Judon

And another thing….am I the only one that sees the Montgomery signing as James White insurance? He should be in RB depth…not WR.

I remember the Pats D boosting its stats vs teams that lost their key offensive player(s) to injury.
Carolina, Cleveland, Atlanta, Tennessee

That’s how I viewed the Montgomery deal. White insurance + a sort of Cordarrelle Patterson type gadget guy.

Jarvis Landry is still out there and is a #1ish type receiver...since no one seems to want to pay him that much money maybe he can be had on a relatively cheap deal. Was productive early up until 2020 when things started going south...maybe it's tied to Baker throwing him the ball.

So, any free agent that hasn't been signed will be willing to sign with the patriots for a relatively cheap deal? NOT!

Perhaps, you mean under $15M AAV as a relatively cheap deal?

I mean if no one else wants him, what's he going to do, sit out the 2022 season?

Rumors online say Chargers are the favorite for him.

That would be ideal, as the chargers would probably pass on drafting nt Davis and go right tackle. Maybe penning!

You truly believe that this is the last day of free agency, and the alternative to not signing now is to sit out the season? Really?

I suspect that Landry will sign with someone in May, but he could certainly wait until July. As far as thinking that it is a patriot pre-draft lowball offer or nothing for 2022, that is simply delusional.

I'm hardly the only one who thinks Landry to NE is a good fit. He's the only other top WR available who isn't coming off a major injury like OBJ, a headcase like AB, or old like Julio Jones. His asking price may come down in May or July, and maybe Belichick will pounce. Who knows.

Might that team be the New England Patriots, who need help at wide receiver? NBC Sports' Peter King made a compelling case for Landry heading to Foxboro in his latest "Football Morning in America" column.

"There is no better fit of player to team in the next week than the Cleveland wide receiver to New England," King wrote. "It would take Landry 15 minutes to become one of Bill Belichick’s favorites of recent years. ... His gritty and no-BS style on and off the field fits the Pats perfectly."

Landry is a strong blocker and a productive slot receiver who posted five consecutive seasons of at least 80 receptions and 950 yards from 2015 to 2019. While Jakobi Meyers and Kendrick Bourne were solid for New England in 2021, Landry would give quarterback Mac Jones a No. 1 option in the slot in a similar mold to the retired Julian Edelman.

Landry would be great. Definitely a name to keep an eye on post draft and his realization that he won't get the payday he thinks he deserves

Dear God not the Bills please.

It is interesting that Gilmore remains unsigned, considering the drama that took place last year. You'd think based on his seeming demands for a raise from NE, he would have a hot market the very next offseason.

I doubt there's a lack of suitors or interest. Pretty sure he's had several offers. He's taking his time, just like the Pats GM is.
