Scenario for you - and I'll start this by saying I don't want a RB at 4 overall.

Let's say we draft Campbell, and he becomes a guard because his arms are in fact too small... highly possible right? In fact historically probable.

And - let's also say Jeanty becomes an all-pro back, also highly possible, widely projected even.


In that scenario, a year from now - would we not regret passing on a blue chip offensive player for an average guard? Especially when this is how both players were projected by most?

Assuming Hunter/Carter are gone - What if we took Jeanty R1, trade up for your LT of choice - that's 2 upgrades that help Maye immensely.

An elite back helps the passing game/young QB a lot, and if our O line has 4 players upgraded (RT, C, LG, LT to go with Onwenu), and a better coach/scheme by all accounts then we should be able to run it heavy next year.

The other half of me still thinks it's nuts to take a RB at 4 but this scenario popped into my head. Alright tell me I'm nuts

I like your proposal but just do not see Vrabel passing on Campbell as much for his toughness and durability as for his skill.

I think it’s a reasonable take if we had hindsight and could remain emotionally neutral. I really like your post!

Living in the moment is the problem. The perceived positional value of a RB, the expectation of how the #4 pick should net a near flawless blue chip talent (ironically, Jeanty being one of the few that fit that bill in this draft) , and the sheer need for OL talent makes your post one to definitely save and check back on in the years to come, but probably is beyond the capacity for most right now.

Thanks! And one draft pick that will be debated endlessly I'm sure if it works out that way. Personally Campbell seems like a great teammate and I'm rooting for him to be a franchise LT all the way if we draft him.

He definitely seems like a Vrabel guy and Vrabel talked a lot about protecting the young QB... with Hunter/Carter off the board he does feel nailed on for us at 4, rooting for him to make it at tackle.

We will be watching the first 3 picks for years to come and compare them to the #4 pick. I firmly believe Mayo will be black balled from the league for what he did week 18 if the Pats draft a dud and the 3 picks prior are studs.

He will probably be black balled independent of how the picks work out. Mayo's first few press conferences may have buried his future opportunities. His philosophies are not generally seen as how the league operates.

Trade down with Saints for their 9th pick, get their 2nd round pick (40) out of it. Take Tyler Warren at 9. Then trade back into the 1st with the Bengals for both 2nd round picks, get Josh Simmons at 17.

If Hunter & Carter are both gone, then getting the OT is fine as long as it's after a trade down. I don't see anyone wanting to trade up to 4 unless it's a QB-needy team going for Sanders - everyone else will probably just take who falls to them.

The only teams in the top 15 in the QB market are the Jets at 7 and the Saints at 9. Unlikely we'd deal with the Jets - you never know but more likely it's NO. They have a high 2nd (40), two 3rd's, and two 4th's. They may be willing to part with their 2nd, cause they can move back into the 2nd round by packaging their extra 3rd & 4th. So if that were to happen, we'd have:

- at 9, hopefully either Campbell or Membou is still there; if not then Banks or Simmons
- then we'd have two high 2nds (38 & 40), two high 3rds (69 & 77), and a high 4th (106)
- could move up from 38 to r1: either 38+40 to get up to 16, 38+69 to get to 24, or 38+106 to get to 31.

Something like this would be ideal in my opinion, but since I am greedy I would rather package 40 and 69 and then take the best LT. That way we can keep a 2nd and 3rd.
