Most of these franchises see double digit wins most of the time, at least one playoff win every other season, and say “that’s pretty good, we will get there eventually”. The issue is “eventually” never comes but they are risk-averse and would rather be “almost there” forever instead of risking plunging their team into “average” or outright “bad” territory.

It's a fine line. People make so much out of one play. For instance, in that game, Brady missed a wide open Gronk during the 2 pt conversion. Gronk knew it and was exasperated. It happens to even the greatest players. But I also happen to think that this was one of the top 5 games of Brady's career. He was fantastic after getting brutalized the entire game.
