So what happens to these mocked fired NFL head coaches who once held one of the 32 most desired jobs in the country.....

(54) Jack Del Rio- 2 time HC loser but he's half Italian so he becomes the Raiders front man in Vegas or does it continue to be a bad spiral for Phil Simms TV career as Jack replaces him on CBS.

(57) Chuck Pagano went 11-5 over his first 3 seasons and finished 53-43 over his 6 year HC gig, is a cancer survivor , a strong Christian parent of 3 girls who wisely signed a 4 year extension in 2016.

Will he be smart enough to go relax on a beach for a year on Jim Irsay's dime or will he be taken care of by the NFL lifer protection group and be hired as a DC in 2018 ?.

Hue Jackson is the ML Carr of the NFL.
ML had the decency to step aside once he delivered the high draft picks to the organization.

I've never seen the combination of on field ineptitude and behind the scenes power mongering as Jackson. Remember he was Oakland's coach when Al Davis died. He stepped into a power vacuum and used his power and spent WAY too much on getting Carson Palmer, who didn't do diddly for them. He's really good at defeating internal rivals and really bad at winning games.

Doubt it. Gruden is their guy, If they were not getting him, I believe they would have held onto Del Rio (unless there is a piece of information out their I havent seen)

Reading the tea leaves a/k/a combining the news reports that were out there (I make no claim to the accuracy, but it does fit the narrative):

  1. Tampa and Oakland got into competition for Gruden's services
  2. Gruden has chosen Oakland
  3. Tampa is bringing back its coach
  4. Oakland told its coach "So long, and thanks for all the fish!"

I still think Pagano can be a decent HC when not fielding a team built by Ryan Grigson. He's got some learning to do and he'll get too much **** the rest of his life for that ridiculous punt formation but I think he's got a shot to become a decent HC as long as nobody asks him about Groundhog Day again.

Bet

He goes back to Baltimore as DC

That's a nice scoop for the raiders. I think gruden can make them respectable but they gotta fix that defense. I wonder if the giants where interested in gruden.

Report is McDaniels is number 1 on the Giants list.
If true and he accepts it at least it's NFC.

Is it just me or would the Giants be near the bottom of my list of attractive coaching vacancies?
  • Meddling-ish owner willing to throw you under the bus.
  • Popular QB who isn't the future you'll have to put to pasture. Fans will love you for that.
  • Or else you're going to be directed to pass on a QB with the #2 overall pick so that they can trot out Eli some more. Joy.
  • Superstar WR possibly the most high-maintenance player in league.
  • The entire secondary was embroiled in various controversies.
  • The GM was hired first, so you'd presumably be under him in the power structure and you're not bringing in your own guy.
  • OL sucks. RBs suck. LBs suck. QBs suck.
  • Entire defense swallowed their own hype and choked on it. Horrific effort at times.
  • Obnoxious NY media. Unlike the Jets, they expect you to be good.
  • At least owner's coziness with Goodell gets players' "indescretions" excused, so go ahead and sign that domestic abuser.
I dunno. Gimme Indy, Chicago, Raiders, Tennessee, etc. before the Giants. I imagine we might lose Josh, but if he goes to the Giants I'd wonder if he'd learned anything at all from his Denver flameout.

Happy for Gruden.

However not happy as it makes the Raiders better and now ESPN's MNF football broadcast will be even less entertaining as he was the best part about. Who the hell is ESPN going to replace him with, Rex Ryan?

Hope the Broncos keep Vance, he sucks!

Surprising that Gruden chose the Raiders. If he left his MNF job I'd have expected it to be back to Tampa Bay. On the other hand, I consider the Raiders to have more upside than the Bucs. Will be interesting to see if Gruden still has got it after being out of coaching for nearly a full decade.

Rapoport says to keep an eye on Patricia for the Lions job.

If Luck is healthy that's a great job for McDaniels.

Lowered expectations after Pagano debacles
No Grigson
Division still doesn't have a great team in it
3rd pick in each round of the draft
$85 million in cap space with the QB already locked up to a big deal for another 4 years
Most of the players on bad contracts from the Grigson days are gone and there's a full rebuild going on.

Plus Bill is making trades with the Colts so clearly he believes deflategate was purely a Grigson thing not a Colts thing.

The #Lions are expected to interview #Patriots DC Matt Patricia for their now-vacant head coaching job. There will be others, but Patricia could keep the respected offensive staff in place. GM Bob Quinn's New England ties will help.
