Not sure Smith's wife's unfortunate medical situation was a reason, or a convenient excuse for him taking a leave and essentially "moving upstairs". But the end result is that Billy will get what he wants, at least for the next year, or if they extend BOB or hire a new GM.

I would never think that any man would publicly use his wife’s illness as a phony reason to take a leave of absence from his job.

I’m not understanding how this allows bob to “get his way” because it won’t be increasing his authority as far as I have heard. Rumors were that his job was in jeopardy so I doubt they end up handing him total control.

Flores is the most logical BB successor. Get away!

This is getting a little carried away. The Pats are in all likelihood prepared to lose Patricia and McDaniels, but losing Flores is a whole different matter. This could force BB to effectively serve as the D coordinator & he may decide that he doesnt have an appetite to take on two roles. Hopefully this is just Arizona’s way of complying with the Rodeney rule.

But the Pats better have a transition plan behind Flores, because he may only be D Coordinator for a year or two. Maybe they can get Patrick Graham back from the Giants (unless McDaniels taps him as a D Coordinator).

The Pats had a nice run of stability, where they had a coaching advantage that allowed them to consistently outsmart other teams, but we may be transitioning into an era of the NFL where Patriot dicsiples rule the league and the coaching advantage is spread across several teams.

I could see this starting next year with Houston making a championship run behind Watson & BOB.

I'd be curious how BB felt about Graham bolting the way he did. And if Graham did because Flores was passing him ?

Regardless, unless Flores' contract is up Arizona can't take Patricia as HC and Flores as DC without the Patriots' permission. Unless the coach's contract is up, any assistant needs permission unless it's to be a head coach. However, as you say, this does suggest Flores could be on the fast track and not long for our DC spot if that's where he is next year.

Flores was already getting interview requests last year (Shanahan wanted him as DC in SF). But it is kinda funny how suddenly parts of the fanbase are catching up to him.

When Broncos coach Vance Joseph learned that he wouldn’t be one-and-done in Denver, his staff may have breathed a sigh of relief. Some of them shouldn’t have.

Special-team coordinator Brock Olivo has been fired, according to Mike Klis of KUSA. Olivo joins offensive coordinator Mike McCoy (who was fired during the season) and offensive line coach Jeff Davidson as former Broncos employees.

O'B has done extremely well considering the disaster GM he had to work with and injuries he's been dealt.

Despite what some say about former Pats Coaches & QB's they all never have a hard time getting work.
