You need both. I'm not saying to avoid the quality FAs in favor of the decent depth vets, I'm saying do both. Sign 5 high priced FAs at positions of high need, and then also sign 6-7 mid-level veterans to fill out the roster and create some depth. They have tons and tons of money, they can afford all of that, especially when those mid-level veterans are replacing street-level guys and they only take up another net $1-2M on the cap each.

There are benefits to having some decent slightly older vets who are a little past their prime but still solid and are capable of showing your younger players how a pro does business. It’s good to try to have a mix.

I agree with that, you need leaders on every unit, but I believe the vast majority of their investment this offseason should for really good starters. That’s where they are really lacking. You can address depth anytime, getting good starters is what is difficult.

I think they’ll try to sign many high-end guys out of the gates and move off of guys who they don’t think they can get. Free agency is usually staggered such that the top guys go early on, and then the second tier and mid level guys start signing deals after that first wave. So realistically it’s not really an “either/or” situation. They’ll try to get top talent and then they can backfill what they’ve missed out on in the next wave.

I think you have it dialed. I think Baker has a 10 cent head and he's gonna struggle with JMcD's system. Polk likely will have a huge turnaround, huge being a relative term. He starts at zero. He's been horrible with horrible coaching. Now he will at least be coached well, and may be a capable NFL receiver. I don't think he is ever going to be great, but he may be a serviceable NFL player. Boutte has a real opportunity to shine here now, as does Pop, knowing how slot WRs excel in this system. To your point, Gibson is already here, so the role of James White / Kevin Faulk is filled.

They are already better. Get two WRs to bolster the room and fix the line, and they'll be a professional NFL offense.

I think this is a real valid point. Bill certainly preferred to take WRs later in the draft. As a rule, they didn't draft a chit ton. From 2000-2022, here's the list:

I think you can throw out Slate,. he's a career STer. I think you can throw out Jules, too. They had no idea what they were going to do with him, other than he was a football player. Looking at the rest, that's really poor development, and even poorer recognition of talent UNLESS you just look at it thru the lens of what you said, that rookies don't get it. Belichick has said that rookies come in and have no idea, and perhaps he just didn't want to even bother with them. It's almost as if he instead opted for vets who had shown the aptitude to grasp NFL level offenses, had the work ethic to make it and a proven ability to be coached.

It's mind blowing to me, because you could look at the opposite side of the ball and their success with guys in the secondary and just scratch your head.

To @TheRainMaker point, they certainly didn't draft a lot of guys to man the position.

Coaching, playing with Brissett and then getting hurt ultimately is what happened with polk.. he's a talented WR and will have a real chance to develop ended Josh McDaniels.

I think that’s a pretty accurate depiction of how free agency works. And I think there are plenty of guys in that second tier who can help them. I don’t expect everything to get done in one offseason.

Unfortunately I don’t have the same hope for Baker, unless they pare down the playbook for him to a degree where he just has to understand a few assignments. But it’s the coaches jobs to figure out what they can get out of a player, and then get that out of them. I whole heartily agree with you huck. Both polk and baker are talented guys or else they wouldn't be in the NFL. Proper development will be essential to them this season and going forward. Looking forward to everyone that is on the roster to have the benefit of Proper coaching and development.

I think it was a choice. I think he waited until guys proved they could get it in the NFL and then he’d get them. I think he did not want to waste time with young guys eating up roster spots while they learned how to do it. He’d rather trade for guys or get them as FA.

OK Cousins , I am of the same religion as Ross12. Having too many vets like the old George Allen Redskins......(dare I used that brand!!!!!) or some 90% rookie Teams that have tried to whirlwind the sport has not been successful.

We have roughly $130,000,000 to spend to add a Vet prescience who know what it takes and how to win in some cases. to our youth which is about to increase with this Draft.. That's more than the GDP of some small countries.

I will hand pick some I would like to see join our roster and if it doesn't match your ideal...what's it to ya. .........We all have our opinions. I have tried to figure out what the bill at the cash register will be too.

I want LT Ronnie Stanley and LG Patrick Mekari from the Ravens....why? they played together there and our left side of the line would be capable. Many have not thought about this. Continuity! Mekari can also play RT. Cost for both? about $31mm

Najee Harris RB. Thousand yard runner the last 4 seasons and does not fumble. ...About $6mm

Cooper Kupp WR expensive but a teacher to these young kids, It will cost us a low end pick and the Rams will have to take some salary. About $20mm TBD

Jeffrey Simmons DT Loved his time with Vrabel. Has ties the Titans CAP situation with his outrageous salary we have seen. We can afford him. He's many times All Pro and he is still young. Will a Third Rounder and a late rounder free him? About $25mm

The last insert here will affect our D line our Draft and the balance of NFL bucks. I her boos already.
Maxx Crosby DE/EDGE !!!!!!Pats swap pick #4 in the first for pick #6.plus QB Joe Milton and our 2nd rounder #38. and a third rounder in 2026.. In return we get Maxx Crosby, the Raiders 3rd rounder this year #68 and a young All Pro talent in Crosby. About $24mm

So that is about $106mm for these definite roster changers. Vets and youth.

My suggestion for #6 would be TE WR Tyler Warren and then hit the board with two 3rds for OL (had three but we gave up one for Simmons) help anf in the 4th LB Danny Stutsman....a wild man.

I see, so the otc 2025 page already had a calculated assumed raise as their total cap. Now that i look at 26 and 27 they do already have the estimated increases then too. That makes sense now
