Most sites like Overthecap.com have been assuming a salary cap of around $279M so this is not really any surprise or a big difference versus what was anticipated.

I don't think the Pats are "screwed" in any way... that's just dramatic... Even with a cap of $280M, there are 14 teams with an effective cap space of less than $20M... Only 6 teams have more than $60M in cap space, with the Pats being significantly higher than #2 and #3 (Pats around $120M, Raiders around $90M, then Commanders around $75M).

Most interesting outcome of this for me will be whether it affects the possibility of Alaric Jackson or Ronnie Stanley either being available at all or being more signable by a bidder other than the Pats. Obviously the same goes for other players and teams but those are the two guys at the top of my FA wish list.

The first thing that struck me was will Alaric Jackson be available to use and looks like he will get overpaid to tune of 25 million from an expected aav of 16 million.

That’s exactly it. Most teams have planned on a cap in $275-$280m range. As you mention, OTC factored in $279M in all of its estimates.

The issue last year and some other years was when the actual salary cap increase significantly exceeded what was anticipated. That allowed for teams to not cut players that they otherwise were planning on in order to fit into the cap, and so there weren’t as many good players hitting the market as expected. Right now, it seems like everything is lining up with expectations, so I don’t see a reason to change the analysis that’s been done to this point.

It was projected to be 275 million by sportrac and that's what all the space we have talked about all off season has been based on

So an extra 2-6 million per team is now going to change the landscape? Each team gets 1 Andy Dalton.

The league was way better when teams actually had to manage the cap and mediocre players weren't getting insane contracts like Robert Hunt last year. Seriously, who the f*** is Robert Hunt? Back in the day, this would be a cap crippling contract.

If the NFL had a hard cap like the NBA, it would help stop this nonsense.
