a little bit isn't enough for most of the teams that will want to hire him
It'll depend on what everyone wants. 5 years is probably all of it. After that, I'd be 50/50 on him.

If you're Cleveland or Tennessee and you believe he's the guy to do it, 5 years would seem enough to establish a positive forward moving culture

If he doesn't establish culture by the end of year 2, there's a problem.

Some of you old farts talking about Harbaugh like he needs help walking up a flight of stairs. He's 10 months older than his brother and no one questioned his age when he joined the Chargers.

This, remember when Belichick got fired, and his agent put out all the teams that were interested in him in the media right afterward.

He got 1 (one) interview, and Arthur Blank decided he'd rather run it back with Raheem Morris, Terry Fontenot and Rick McKay (and the results were completely predictable)

An owner's preference is always going to be a good coach, who got a raw deal in his prime (this cycle, a Stefanski), or a young coordinator they don't have to really pay for a while.

I could see Mark Davis rolling the dice on him, but he's now paying a 4th head coach, and they just fired Pete Carroll. Maybe Stephen Ross fires McDaniel for him? Does Harbaugh turn the Dolphins around? I dunno. If Buffalo's one-and-done, maybe he goes there?

Wherever he ends up (and it's going to be a head-scratching situation he ends up in), just temper your expectations.

My only caveat to this line of thinking if he were going to get fired (and probably won't now) is Tomlin, and he's like 5 or 6 years younger than Harbaugh.

(I also don't think either of them are great coaches - great regular season coaches, yes)

If you're Cleveland or Tennessee (and ************ Harbaugh's going to work for those mental-midget owners?), and you bring in Harbaugh, you're going to want to team him up with some top-notch coordinators that he might not get his own pick of.

I dunno about you, knowing you're signing on for Todd Monkin as well is....eh.

Jim has turned around and stabilized Multiple programs and franchises, and was 59 when he was hired.

John inherited Brian Billick's guys, Ozzie Newsome, and one of the most stable franchises in the NFL.

It was just a thought exercise. I find it hard to believe Harbaugh would allow his wagon to be hitched to either of the highly questionable horses that are Miss Amy or Jimmy Haslam. Or that either of them would be so self aware as to hand someone with a pedigree the reins and step away like they should have before

The Patriots, Bears and last year's Redskins Commanders not withstanding, it's usually more than 1-2 years to turn it around. Let's say it's 3-5 to really set it in stone. That makes him 68. Are you thinking you'd get more than that from him? Mind you, I am all in on this guy, but he's a win right eff'n now, not after he gets rid of Tua's ****ty contract or waits for the Watson deal to go away while being married to Sanders. Got to Arizona with a guy who won't watch film? My point is he needs to pick his spot carefully. He won't be coaching in 10 years.

IMO, it's Giants with Nabors and Dart or Raiders with the #1 pick.

For the record this old fart was quite capable at 63 however, in the interest of full disclosure, it wasn't long after the wheels started falling off the capablity wagon

Gotta be thinking Stefanski and Harbaugh are high on The Giants and Raiders lists. Good situation in the former and a blank slate in the latter

Keeping in mind the owners of those (dis)organizations I'd go 3, the first year would be taken up just in educating the owner
If he doesn't establish culture by the end of year 2, there's a problem.
If a HC can't establish their culture Year 1 they a) wern't the guy in the first place b) were undermined by the owner/football ops people.

I would guess Stefanski's the top choice of both.

Imagine Harbaugh on the Giants though. You go from Lamar Jackson to....Temu Lamar Jackson.

Jim ran to the NFL because it was his morality in question. For billionaires, that isn't a question for them.

Ageism is no big deal for corporations because everyone that doesn't matter has a cubicle anyway where you pay a 25 year old's salary instead of a 50 year old's salary.

Now if you are going to try and sell me on the guy doesn't know how to relate to 25 year olds anymore...that might be a real thing.

If it's the Raiders, he will be facing his brother twice a season. Fun games to watch.

Which was my overarching point. In Tennessee, Cleveland and Arizona the corner offices occupants represent significantly bigger challenges than the rosters

I actually think 1-2 years are hue most turnarounds happen. You left Houston off the list.
Let me clarify. Almost every staff either turns it around or proves they can’t in the first 2 years. Sone teams just go through a lot of iterations before they get it right.
Can you think if as many teams that too 3,4,5 years under the same staff and gradually improved as we just named who did it all at once?

Reid was in KC for 6 yrs before he made it to the Super Bowl. Sirianni was 3 yrs. Both made the playoffs right off. Dan Campbell was 3 yrs before he made the playoffs. Dan Quinn Super Bowl year 2. Tomlin was champ yr 2. Shanny was 3 yrs. McVey was 2 years. Coughlin made the playoffs yr 2 with Jax, yr 2 with NYG and then champs yr 5.

Playoffs seem to happen for these guys right off.

I think 2-3 yrs is a long enough leash.

Which makes me double down on Harbaugh's choice needs to be a good one. He's got one more shot at the brass ring.

Yeah seems like the idea of building over time isn’t real.
