NFL bans ALL hits where player lowers head

The only thing about this rule that bothers me is how it will be applied.. you know you'll have many games where the refs will let it go, and then randomly call it super tight on certain games. (Or against certain teams)
Going to be fascinating to watch. (Said no one ever)

More subjectivity and grey area with the rules. Just what the Pats need!

You understand the penalty does mean you have to be upright at contact, it means you can’t LEAD WITH YOUR HEAD don’t you?

You’re confused as to what I’m saying

I thought leading with the crown was already a penalty?

If it’s targeted towards the head. This rule seems to penalize ALL target areas. And it’s not limited to the defense.

This applies to all players, not just defenders. And in addition to the 15yd penalty the player is subject to non-mandatory ejection.

Or we can try a few things somewhere in the middle of leading with heads and no football at all.

Name one tackling technique which prevents sub-concussive hits.

Excellent with the new catch rule and this abomination we can have the refs making more judgment calls.... Perfect the NFL must be shooting for 5 Hour Games.

You might have missed the NYFL memo. The refs aren't making the calls. They only get to take the blame when things blow up.

Those here who've been foolish enough to follow my posting career closely know that I've been harping on that type of hit for years. To me it's one of the cheapest parts of the game.

Christ Almighty, before everyone clutches their pearls and wonders how, oh how, will a poor defender make a tackle now ... watch pro rugby for ten minutes.

The fact is that NFL tackling technique sucks ass.

Then what are you saying?

I was asking about the RB getting penalized on a goal line stand when he leads with his helmet. Is that a penalty under the new rule?

Apples and oranges -- different game entirely.

The rb wouldn’t lead with his head he would lead with his shoulder. If he is stupid enough to run into a player head first he ought to get a penalty.

I was asking two questions. You responded earlier to my question regarding offensive players, RBs in particular.
I actually responded to both but in both cases it’s not what you think.
