New Position --- QB SPY

The league is really moving towards multi-dimensional qbs... guys who run and throw... some throw better (Wilson) some run better (Jackson) some seem to do everything really well (Mahomes) ... and some who don't do either particularly well but are getting better (Allen etc)...

Would it be worth it to draft a quick/fast LB / Safety type hybrid and coach them up to be a dedicated QB Spy? a lot of the linebackers out there, least on our team, as just too slow to be ultra effective in staving off that type of threat... yeah I get that you take a guy out of the middle/back of the field but the damage done by these types of quarterbacks... besides we do it anyway at times... might be really beneficial to have a dedicated player coached up on the task... we have specialists for all kinds of roles... this just might be the next one...

good idea? or am I wet behind the ears on this one...

So he is effectively useless whenever we play any of the top teams in the league.

Bentley is a linebacker, who will play that role.

I'm talking about a player dedicated to the role. Guess its a quibble, but I do feel like there is, or should be, a distinction between the two.

BB does not like specialists except on ST. He prefers players who can handle multiple roles, e.g., jack of all trades, master of none.

So we'll have to live with it.

I was saying that all game last night. Our LBs are slow as 5hit, and RW is not even that of a fast QB on the ground. Wait till we face LMRJ....

To answer Pape's question, because it's a very important point that they raise: This defense won't have a good solution for a QB spy until Uche returns, which is hopefully sooner than later. Assuming Uche plays soon, that will go a LONG way towards helping defend scrambling QBs.

I think BB has been preparing for this for a while, as we now have Chung(opted out) McCourty, Duggar, Phillips and Brooks.. all can be used in a "spy role" another reason why I thought BB specifically targeted Duggar this year.

A spy is someone who you basically want to have sitting over the middle or the flat, and more often than not it's the mike, so it's essentially a dual role. Uche is not capable of that at this point. I could be wrong, but...

You can spy from multiple positions, with multiple players, and those players can be responsible for more than just spying on a given play.

Collins served that role in the past, and given the similarities between Uche and Collins, I expect Uche will be playing that role when he sees the field.
