NE@BUF post-game (over)reaction thread

Two things:

A) Hope Tom makes it through the season okay if that OL play doesn't improve.

and

B) Hope Belichick remembers that to get really talented offensive linemen, it might help to draft some more of them, especially at guard. Mankins can't hold up forever and neither can Connolly. Also eventually need a more dependable backup center.

He had a bad drop which you can argue cost Buffalo the game (poetic justice, really.) His TD was the result of a blown coverage, I'm not sure if it was on Talib or Gregory but one of them played it wrong, one of the few bad plays by the secondary today.

Almost all of Buffalo's yards were dumps to Jackson/Spiller and Jackson breaking a few decent runs. Defense was great overall.

In the Linebacker thread I said that Buff would challenge our LBs' pass coverage today with the rook at QB. Nice 1st game for the rookie QB.

We are solid against the run. I am still waiting for us to cover a RB and the pass rush is MIA. I was pleased to see Gregory had a pass defensed, while McCourty was invisible except when he was late getting over on the TD.

Many forget that Brady was hit time after time in the 1st half. Twice he had KT wide open but understandably missed him when the D had a hand in his face before planting him. To Brady's credit he hung tough and as Buffalo's D tired and the OL got their you know what together, TFB was ready to put the team on his back and will a win with the able assistance of Astounding Amendola, Ben Vereen and Edelperson with Ghost to kick the clutch points.

I saw Mayo make a critical 3rd down pass coverage stop. Really. I'm not lying.

6 of Brady's incompletes:

Sudfeld's bobble, which turned into the INT
2 passes through Edelman's hands in the endzone
2 endzone passes to Thompkins that should have been completed, but for mental errors by Thompkins
The sideline pass where Thompkins didn't bother getting his 2nd foot down

Not only that, but on the last 2 drives his passes to Amendola were into windows so small they were invisible. An absolutely A+ performance.

Bright side, we will be a top 10 defense after round one.

another observation:
watched game from a bar that had a lot of bills fans. just listening to them, you would have thought they were in the super bowl.
nice to know other fans still think game vs pats is their super bowl.

Why is Vereen not starting?

And did Julian Edelman have a better game than the one from Welker everyone was gushing over?

I bet he will next week. 2 fumbles in one game will get you on the bench.

I'm sure this has been mentioned, but Brady's a stud.

Our defense is still vanilla. No creativity.

No consistent pass rush. Good thing we were playing against the Bills.

Short crossing passes are uncoverable in this defense.

Edelman and Amendola are studs. Freaking competitive as hell.

Thomkins looked lost out there.

Vereen is a stud. Should be our starting RB.

Bench Ridley. He isn't so good that he has to play. Vereen/Bolden/Blount/Leon should be our rotation.

McD got pretty predictable. I knew and so did the Bills everytime we called a WR screen.

All in all, it's a win. So I'll take it.

here are my thoughts:

The Bills have been a **** team the last, well, forever. In the last 5-6 years they have drafted high and have done a pretty good job of building a team. They have an outstanding front 7 and a pretty damn good RB/WRs. They just drafted a rookie QB that in a couple years will be a very good QB.

These aint your father Bills...these guys are young and talented. They gave us a good challenge and our experience won the game.

Cant overlook the Bills any longer IMO. Good win for the Pats!!!!!!!!!

The lack of PI called on Buffalo today was unreal. Thompkins was grabbed all day long.

It wasn't a pretty win, but we can go up. I do worry about the lack of hits on the other teams QB, and can Vereen/Blount/Bolden be our RB's if Ridley spends any amount of time in the dog house?

All game I was saying, "Isn't that pass interference ?" Our guys were getting mugged. Just have to work through it. Fact is, rookies don't get the calls very often. One thing I took away from the game too, was the fact that Allen did a pretty good job as a holder on place kicks. The 48 yarder by the Gost was a high snap, good play by Allen AND Gost. Not sure I'm sold on Allen as a punter just yet, BUT you don't win TWO Ray Guy awards in college for nuthin.

Brady seemed off for a lot of the game, but he's dealing with a lot of new targets. He was 7 for 7 on the winning drive, typical Clutch TFB.

I wonder if they will give Amendola off against the Jets, but I doubt it, it's another division rival, and they are all must win games. He impressed me big time today, caught everything, and played through some serious pain. Luckily he'll have 10 days to rest his groin after the Jet's game.

Was impressed by the Pat's defense, but they have zero ability to rush the passer, we need to draft impact players on defense. And why not blitz Hightower and Mayo more often ? This defense is so vanilla and reactionary instead of making the offense react to them. Teams don't have to gameplan for anyone on the Pat's D. I will say that I'm impressed by Dennard, he actually turned around and almost intercepted a pass. I thought turning around and looking for the ball was frowned upon by Patriot's defensive coaches.

Brady was off???? Thompkins was off...over and over.Brady had no trouble throwing to Amendola or Edelman...in fact, if THEY hadn't dropped passes that hit botheir hands, Brady would have been 100% to those two. It's the rookies in this offense....I just hope they adsjust and perform the way they're supposed to.

Yeah Brady was off. Both Edelman and Amendola had to make spectacular catches on mediocre throws. Brady also was the cause of the fumble on the one yd line that cost the Pats at least 3 if not 7 pts. It is OK fro Patriot fans to point a finger of blame at Tom Brady. He really hasn't been perfect in years.

What? No. I agree that Vereen has earned the opportunity to start/see more playing time, but Ridley is head and shoulders above Bolden/Blount/Washington.

That's Brady putting the ball where only his guys can get it.

The defense, for whatever reason, was playing a ton of zone today from what I saw. Those crossing patterns and slants were going to be there all day long as long as Manuel found the holes in the zone. The Pats didn't give him anything deep outside the numbers.

Won a division road game. Played good D, ran the ball well, threw for close to 300 yards. Won a division road game.

Made the clutch defensive stop - and the clutch completions when they counted.

Looked at in another way - the throws that Welker had previously dropped, got caught today.
