My Extreme Homer Position

They obviously like Lowe. He’s suchagreat guy. Married, family, hard worker, heads on straight. Did you know he adopted his troubled kid brother?

Mayo commented how quiet he is. Just grinds and incrementally improves. He’s got good length. He could put it together at LT. Just don’t expect him to do that at RT.

Last season it was bad when he started at RT, which colors people’s minds.

But it’s fair to say Caedan Wallace has more potential physically.

Pats go 9-8, miss the playoffs on tie-breakers. We get to see them on Hard Knocks next summer.

I'd like to think we are improved but that's no guarantee especially if the OL is actually worse than last year so saying 2-8 takes that into account.
Yup, the OL problems reared it ugly head vs the scrimmage with the Eagles. Im guessing that it was while passing the ball. Thats why Im leaning towards carrying 4 RBs and relying heavy on the rush and or short passes to the RBs.
I think we should be a game or 2 better just based on Gonzo and Judon playing so I've been going with 6 wins.
I believe that Gonzalez will be a star CB in the NFL.
The WR room and QB play has me hopeful we can do better than 6 but the OL is making me poop my pants out of fear.
It sounds like Polk and Baker are hits which makes complete sense with BB no longer picking WRs.

Players improve through there third or fourth year, and after that they are who they are. That is not being mean, it is the human condition. Lowe is in his third year and 25 years old, so there is room for improvement. I would not be too helpful, but maybe.
Plenty of players take longer and a second team. Vrabel and Ninko come to mind as examples.

Agreed but it matters what "plenty" means. I think it is a pretty short list. For example, Thornton has to break out this year for me to continue to hope. But Thornton could develop later. Geno Smith?

Thornton looks to be having a better summer this year I wouldn't completely give up on him yet.

MY EXREME HOMER POSITION
1) I expect us to win about 6 games.
2) The coaches are inexperienced but will be given lots of slack and will learn as they go. They are a huge improvement.
3) I believe that we could use upgrades in almost every unit. However, IMO the primary backups are all NFL quality players. The major exception is of course at LT.
4) I didn't expect the Offense to gel for at least half of the year. I expect the Offense to be about 20-25th in the NFL this year, a major improvement.
5) I'm OK with Okorafor and Wallace as starter and backup at RT, in whichever order. This will still probably be our 2nd worst position, after LT.
6) Perhaps, Okorafor will be the swing OT or not. It is more likely that we will need to have a backup LT active in every game.

THE ABSOLUTE DISASTER AT LT
Yes, we will need a TE or 6th OL helping out on almost every play. Lowe and Anderson as our LT's. Is Anderson even a better LT than Okorafor?

Please, please, please, let us not repeat the 2023 disaster at LT. If we can't get better than Lowe, then so be it. Game plan knowing that. However, we do need at least one new signee as a backup. It seems that we have a couple of youngsters for the Practice Squad. BTW, I think that this means more running, so we should sign another RB. As of now, we just can't handle an injury to one to the top two RB's.

BOTTOM LINE
The team will be better when we cut down to 50 players. We won't be having our QB playing with Mafi at center. There will be a game plan that utilizes whichever WR's are playing best, plus using Henry, Gibson and Stevenson as receivers.
Position of reason. Not a homer position.
Homer position is we will make the playoffs.

Although your thoughts are best case its not crazy lunatic thinking

My extreme homer position is 12-5 with a home playoff game.
They're also going to have a top running game to aid Maye's development.
And the defense will be top 5.
Mayo gets coach of the year.

Suddenly Bedard is the Truth.
If you wake up positive find a positive report. If you wake up negative find a negative report. They are all the Truth.

These days there are only negative reports. It is like we rehired M Patricia.

Here’s the good news, this team is not that far away from being in the hunt for a playoff spot. This season is going to be rough, but the only real issue is the OL. If, as it appears, they have their QB if the future in Maye, then they will have the next free agency and draft to fix their OL, and they have good running backs, decent tight ends, a slew of young receivers to work with, and a good defense. They also have more $ than anyone else for free agency, and what should be good draft picks to work with. We could be looking at a much brighter picture by this time next year.

Boy I love that! Lol... I just can't wait for week 1.. , the media reports are becoming a nuisance.. especially on when Drake should start.. week 9, week 4, week 8... I mean geesh! I feel Drake has earned the job! The kid should have an opportunity to start and go through the rigorous NFL season. The situation with Mac was self inflicted.. I think the organization is being too overly cautious.

I guess the fact that a prediction of six wins is reasonably presentable as an "extreme homer position" tells us everything we need to know about where the team is and suggests it is reasonable to wonder if the right people are even now in place to put things right. If it matters, I'd predict a win or two fewer than 6. I don't feel great about saying so, but given the virtual certainly that this team has no chance of relevance in the post-season this year, I'm embarrassingly comfortable saying "the fewer wins the better." A team this bad needs high draft picks, and losing is how you get them. Does this mean I will not enjoy the season? No. I won't root for wins, but I will root for improvement over the course of the season. That's the way it was for Pats fans prior to the Dynasty, and that is how the fans of most teams enjoy their fandom anyway. I guess we aren't quite as special as we used to be. Sic transit gloria mundi.

My daughter and I went through the schedule last night. She (a knowledgeable Pats fan) says.....

Optimistic: 6-11
Pessimistic: 3-14

I tend to agree.
