MVP thread

Remember Stuart Scott’s “Cool as the other side of the pillow”? Montana had it, Brady had it (that spike and catch in the SB was such a boss move), and Maye has it. He plays the game like he is in complete control. Amazing for a 2nd year pro in the most difficult position in sports. MVP awards are great, I truly believe Maye could have an era named after him.
I agree, and I am the biggest Maye fan you will find. No doubt he plays in control and with great confidence.
What’s left to see is facing a great team with a great game plan against him in a tight playoff game, putting his team on his back and being the man in the postseason.
Nothing Ive seen makes me doubt he will do it, but he needs to do it.

Thats the difference between being a Tom Brady and being an Aaron Rodgers or Peyton Manning or Dan Marino.

Doesn’t make sense. This was Mayes to lose and he didn’t lose it yet he’s been overtaken by Stafford? Odd.
As someone posted, the 50 voters all have their own opinions. The betting/market is based on what Joe Q. Public thinks they're going to do. Changes in that number don't represent changes in the actual thinking of the 50 voters.

If your mind was already made up for Stafford (e.g., Dan Orlovsky) before today, then today didn't change anything, and Stafford is still getting your vote. If your mind was already made up for Maye (e.g., Mina Kimes), today still didn't change anything. It's only those people who haven't made up their minds that might be swayed, and even then, I doubt today made all that much difference.

He basically said "Maye's gonna have a lot more chances in the future, so if I did have a vote I would vote Stafford."

That's not how it works.

So it's a narrative award and not a accomplishment award.

Moving on.

2007
2010
2016(should be him)
2017
2021
2012 too. even if they wanted to give Peterson the MVP, Brady should have been first team all-pro. he wasn’t even second team!

Brady led a historic offense. #1 in points, yards, points per drive, yards per drive, DVOA, EPA

Gronk missed 5 games. Hernandez missed 6

Patriots RB’s had 21 rushing touchdowns that season. if he had pulled a Stat Padford/Manning/Rodgers, then he has 40+ touchdown passes instead of 34

Brady led all quarterbacks in total EPA, EPA/play, DVOA, and DYAR

2012 was a total ****ing robbery

I didn't record it, so I don't have his full exact commentary. I believe he said it was very close, so the "before it's too late" factor was his tiebreaker.

Montana took down America’s team in ‘81 with a stellar touchdown drive and Tom took down The Greatest Show On Turf with a game winning drive. Of the two Maye comes off more Montana like. Even keeled, not overly demonstrative. Brady was cool in the moment but very fiery as we all know.

Montana didn’t become the 49ers starter until halfway thru his 2nd season and the niners ended the season 6-10. Brady won a Super Bowl his second season but he wasn't playing like Maye has played this year. Granted it was a different era but Maye is playing MVP caliber football.

Goes without saying Montana and Brady stepped it up in the playoffs and Maye is still unproven. We did have a glimpse of Brady and Montana's clutch and big game performance while they were in college. That means something I think. Then again, Mahomes didn't play any meaningful big game college games and he turned out to be a big game NFL player.

NFL Network showed the Rams/Cardinals highlights and all the Stafford plays and followed it up with the Pats/Dolphins highlights and stated, "Maye only has one highlight to show." referring to the Maye TD pass.

They aren't even hiding their bias.

Yes but he told America who he would vote for.
That certainly influenced people trying to predict who will win.
he prob doesnt want to sound like a homer

Even Rob Parker called Stafford Stat Padford lol

One of the legendary QB seasons in history. Watching him become a superstar has been a treat

Hard to believe with the completion percentage. Elite at all levels this year.
I always shook my head when people said he was inaccurate as a rookie. He finished at 66.6%, which is quite accurate. He just improved his accuracy and finished #1 in the NFL, the ONLY QB in the NFL to have an accuracy percentage over 70%.

But I think it’s funny hearing all about Stafford’s extremely difficult schedule and then down the stretch Stafford lights up absolute garbage teams while losing two games and now the opponent doesn’t seem to matter.

Not just that but a few weeks ago, when the Rams were the first seed in the NFC I heard talking head after talking head say it always went to a QB who led their team to a top seed, and that just a wild card weren't good enough, now there is talk about giving it to a guy who threw 13 1 yard touchdown passes, and led a talent laden team to the 5th seed in the NFC. He couldn't even win his division. If they give it to Stafford they completely diminish the award.

Tom Brady who was a voter last year exposed the problem with MVP voting when he mentioned Staffords career and anything that involved previous years.

As soon as you take anything that happened before this year into account publicly you've shown yourself you're not capable of handling the power that a vote like that gives.

The mentality that Maye will be back and Stafford deserves his lifetime achievement award is projecting things that might never happen, CJ Stroud was gonna be a MVP level QB 2 years ago, Andrew Luck was Peyton Manning 2.0, things happen nothing is linear so to rob someone of their MVP cause "they'll be back" and someone else has played for 15 years is going to show why it's not fit for purpose when Stafford wins.

That's why you get into a rabbit hole of trying to correct things you get wrong, so next year Maye might not deserve MVP and be a clear second to someone else who is more deserving but they could give him it because they robbed him this year?

How does that make sense?

Probably looking at co MVPs at this point.

If voters take the award's title seriously, Drake will win, but they won;t, so he won't. I guess I would frame the question this way: which of the two QB's deserves a greater percentage of the credit for his team's success? Given the makeup of the two teams, the quality of the roster with which each has to work, the answer is obvious. But I don't think that'll matter. Most voters will go with a vague emotional sense that Stafford is a nice guy and wouldn't it be just so very nice if he got the very nice award.

One thing I haven't seen listed is rushing yardage. Maye has 35 rushing first downs and 409 yds rushing while Stafford has -2 yards rushing and 0 first downs.....

there has never been a QB that won MVP from a 3rd place team (maybe even an MVP overall?).....hell, there's been only a couple QB MVP's who's team didn't win their division

Stafford was not runaway good enough to break this trend

Teams with seasons that are entirely the product of a soft schedule will put up scores that barely beat those weak teams.

Pats won 12 games against teams that finished with a losing record. Average margin of victory of about 14 points.
They won 6 games against teams that finished under .400. Average margin of victory almost 18 points.
That's not barely beating them. That's what legit great teams should do to weak teams.

Also this is the NFL not FCS vs FBS. Low information fans might say otherwise but the difference between a good team and a terrible team in the NFL isn't that huge.

I don’t care that much honestly — I can see arguments both ways. It’s cool we have our guy and he’s in the conversation. More importantly he doesn’t seem to care that much nor does Vrabel. They set out to win and are more focused on the W.
