Musings Regard The OL

Well the difference between playing LT and playing RT has really only been (since the passing era started) the different types of DEs that play on the left of right side.
Historically, based upon the old concept that the TE plays on the offensive right you would have LDEs that were bigger, stouter and better run defenses and RDEs that were smaller faster and pass rush specialists.
This trend is stopping, and teams that follow the concept will flip flop their DEs to matchup against the specific OTs. In other words there isn’t really much difference any more between a LT and a RT.

So, I should expect the pay of RT's and LT's to be about the same, for them to be drafted at approximately the same place. Do you think that this is the case?

By all accounts, the deal the Patriots offered was very similar to what Solder got from NY.

That's not by any accounts that I've seen - just sh**-stirring knuckleheads ASSUMING that Solder was including the Patriots among the three teams that apparently offered him "similar" money.

I love how a blown headline nad assumption report become gospel truth in short order.

It’s moving in that direction yes.

He is being paid almost as much as it would have to keep Bennett.... (1M+ more IIRC) and Bennett can block...

Must have been a health thing though......(for us to release Bennett after the trade for the other Bennett fell thru).

Bennett's cap hit was actually 7M according to OTC. And it's not what I said to look at. I specifically mentioned what TEs have gotten this free agency.
Burton got 8M.
Graham got $10M and can't block.
Ebron got 7.5M and can't block.

And Boney Tony played at around 280.

Garcia didn't play at 280.. You are such a joke. If he put on 22 lbs in 2 months (time between his last game and the Combine) then it would have been all fat and he wouldn't had done as well as he did.

Don't know what Garbage you read, but I follow legit sources. Not to mention that your ramblings don't change the fact that Solder made the decision to be closer to his wife's family.

Except that the primary reason that Solder cited for going to NY was so that his wife could be closer to her family. Boston Children's Hospital and the Jimmy Fund are amongst the premier health providers in this country when it comes to Kids Cancer.

By all accounts, the deal the Patriots offered was very similar to what Solder got from NY.

You are just wrong, plain and simple. The notion that the patriots offered something similar to the Giants was just a misinterpretation of Solder’s worlds during his press conference. Curran seems to be the most tapped into the offers and he has said that the Patriots offered around 12 million per year, which is not close to 15 million per year, the last time I checked. Choosing to be closer to his wife’s family in CT meant New York versus Houston and one other team, most likely Denver or Cleveland.

Solder is being guaranteed $34.8M over the first 2 years. Year 3 and 4 matter little. They are really a team option.

It is extremely doubtful that the patriots offered a competitive offer of over $17M a year guaranteed.

The "garbage" I read was the actual, you know, quote from Solder. Try it.

I did. That's what I went with.. Clearly your "interpretation" includes reading things that weren't said.

His weight during the season was not 293, and certainly not close to 302.

Players put on/take off weight between the end of their college seasons and the beginning of the draft process all of the time.

BS. Not 22 lbs.. Which is what he'd had to have done since he was 302 at last year's combine.

He played the senior bowl at 293. That’s a fact.

The quote was misreported. He never said the patriots offer was similar he said 2 other teams were.

You are wrong. A reporter misinterpreted his comments to mean the patriots offer was similar. It was not. 2 other teams made similar offers, not the patriots. You are spouting fake news.

I know, which was my point to DaBruinz.

From the actual reporting, the Pats made him a "solid" offer, then backed away as three teams vied in the stratosphere.

Yeah, but for a 2M difference...wouldn't you rather a healthy Bennett vs. Allen? But another poster here pointed out that Allen had good years in even numbered years...so we will see.

Yep!

The only measurable that doesn't vary from what's recorded during the pre-draft process is height. If a guy gets recorded at 6043 at the Senior Bowl, Combine and his pro day, he doesn't suddenly grow to 6'5" just because it says so on a team website.

Conversely, an athlete's weight, especially with guys as big as linemen, may change by 4-8 lbs during the course of one day, depending on how active they are and how diligent they are about staying hydrated.
