For Rebuild Year One - The OL Isn't That Bad

The OL at the tackle position is a mess until evidence to the contrary is spotted.

We’re going to try Okorafor at LT, which he last played in Kalamazoo in 2017 He’s backed up by some sickly guy named Calvin and VLowe, who can’t play RT. More promise at LT?

At RT it should not be Onwenu. He is not going to be able to physically cope with a steady dose of outside zone. So rookie Wallace. Growing pains there I’m sure.
a solid assessment

We are fine in the middle, pretty good for one of the worst five OL's and teams in the NFL.
============
So, yes, we are one of the very worst at OT, starting from the very bottom. We could even keep 4 OT's.
WALLACE should be a bright spot as a good prospect as a starter at RT (better than Sow starting last year.

OKORAFOR should be a serviceable swing OT. I would even hope to extend him after the season at that position, or move him to RT. If he is our "best" LT, so be it. He will much below average, but he can play the position at an NFL level.
========
IMO, for a rebuild and a team not bound for the playoffs, this is pretty good.
========
Of course, the elephant in the room is LT. We need either Lowe or Anderson to be at least a backup LT. If one of them is solid in camp, we have our 2024 OL, only having to choose the last IOL voted off the island.

Odd statement considering new management just signed every good free agent they had, and extended a whole bunch more.

Please read.

Someone posted that we have been a rebuild for 4 years and asked what we have been doing for 4 years.

I responded that we were getting worse under poor coaching and management.

I stand by that statement.
======
And yes, I am 100% fine with the start of the Mayo 2024-2027 rebuild and the Maye first four years.

The rebuild ended in 2021 after they reset their cap in 2020. They made the playoffs in 2021, if Mac was Burrow/Herbert/Stroud we’re not having this conversation and BB still has a job.

When you’re returning your entire defense, a third of your starting offensive line, your starting RB, TE and most of your WR’s… it’s not a rebuild.

Get the QB position right, fix the offense… not a rebuild. If turning this team around is taking too long or the O-Line sucks this year it’s because they spent 4 million on a left tackle who got fired for sucking in Pittsburgh and signed a bunch of jags in Leverett and Jordan.

They’ve limited their ability to be better this season with offseason decisions, we’ll see if they know something we don’t. But it’s not a "longterm rebuild" simply because they made dumb personnel decisions.

You say that we are not in a re-build on Offense.
I say that we are. OK, we disagree.
====================
Let's see.
We are bringing back (11): an injured Bourne, Douglas, Henry, Stevenson, Onwenu, Andrews, Sow, Andrews, Harris, Reagor (or other from 2023), plus Anderson or Lowe.

We are adding a completely new coaching staff and game schemes on Offense (and HC)

ADDS (14)
WR (3) Osborn, Polk, Baker
QB (3) Maye, Brissett, Milton
RB (2) Gibson, Hasty (plus a possible upgrade FA)
TE (2) Hooper, Bell
OL (4) Wallace, Okorafor, Leverett, Robinson
============
And next year, we will add a top OL or two and a top WR.
==========
I have great optimism and hope to win 6-8 this year and 9-11 next year. That DEPENDS on the success of a major rebuild on Offense, especially QB, WR and OT.

Take the money they sunk into Okorafor, Leverett and Jordan... give it to Andrus Peat, Oli Udoh and Yosh Nijman and they have a great offensive line this year. The money is comparable. They could have drafted a left tackle in the second round as well.

Signing bad players and pushing this turnaround further down the road doesn't make it a rebuild, it means your decisions made this turnaround take longer than it should have. With a great O-Line this team is winning games this season... without one they won't.

Okorafor - $1.25 million guaranteed
Leverett - $250k guaranteed
Jordan - $0 guaranteed

The Saints cut Peat even though it cost them $13.6m in dead money.
c'mon

When Wozzy can force players to sign for us for cheap, this is huge money. He has many time told us that the money for Leverett was chicken feed.
========
BTW, Okorafor was a really good signing as a swing OT, hopefully for many years.

What does the Saints being way over the salary cap to start this offseason have to do with anything? They also tried to re-sign him but he chose to leave for a fresh start, cutting him wasn't about performance.

He received a contract from the Raiders paying him 450K guaranteed.

This ^ is a nonsensical sentence. Nobody knows what you were trying to say here.

250K guaranteed is chickenfeed. Andrus Peat got a deal for 450K guaranteed, also chickenfeed.

He wasn't good in Pittsburgh, a team that desperately needed good offensive lineman, we literally traded them the first round pick so they could draft his replacement because he wasn't good... but he'll be good now because he changed his shirt? Sounds legit...
