Moving Butler would be ridiculous.

Seattle pays Earl Thomas and Cam Chancellor. Denver paid/pays Miller/Ware Talib/Harris. And those are championship teams. Not paying 2 great players just because they play the same position is a foolish philosophy if it indeed exists.
Yes! This! This is why they aren't a championship team!!!

What is hilarious about this place is that all the genius armchair GMS here probably haven't accomplished a thing in their lives and they think they know how to run a football team. Whiny, *****y imbeciles.

The other day it was long term contention is bad. Today its we dont pay the players the right amount. Tomorrow it will be they are disrespecting JG. Next week it will be something else.

Yesterday we had one of the board know-it-alls try to tell us that JG and MB situations were the same?????????

I have never seen a bigger bunch of stupid spinless ****ies in my life.

I would be perfectly fine letting Butler play out his 3.91 million dollar tender. And letting him walk next year. But this season I really want 2 top corners. To be honest I wouldn't mind if the Patriots had 2 top paid CB's. But thats just me.

Since when do Thomas and Chancellor play the same position ?

Now I understand why you couldn't stand Ryan because you apparently thought just because his position said CB that he should be compared to what outside corners do and not to what his main role as an inside corner is.

Also if Butler would have accepted approx. Harris money (8.5 APY) he'd most probably still be here. But the difference is that Harris apparently was aware that as a RFA he will not get the same contract that he would have gotten as a UFA.

Your comparisons are all over the place and none are useful...

I can understand why they wouldn't want to give Ryan a huge deal. He had one good year out of four. There is definite risk there. Paying Allen 18.3 instead of 21 to Bennett and giving up a draft pick was stupid, but I can live with it. I can even live with letting Blount walk (if that's the case) and handcuffing Brady with no running game. I'm numb to it by now.

What I cannot accept is throwing Butler away when there is absolutely no good reason to do so. If Bill deals him away, to me, it takes the wind out of the sails of what has otherwise been an excellent offseason so far. There is no excuse for getting rid of a very good corner and handicapping what could be a dominant defense next year for the 32nd pick in the draft. We have a chance to field the most complete Pats team ever. And instead we are going to throw Eric Rowe, Cyrus Jones or some other awful player out there so we can move up 30 or 40 spots in the draft? That's crazy.

Make him play for the 4 million and then let him walk next year if you don't want to pay him. There is certainly no reason you can't pay big money to two CBs. But if they don't, they still get a 3rd round compensatory pick. Giving up a year of dominating secondary play is not worth moving form the 3rd round to the very bottom of the first. I just don't understand the thinking here. Talk about overvaluing draft position. Their last two first rounders were Dominique Easly and Malcolm Brown. You can't get a guy of that caliber in round three?

You seem to have a rather high opinion of your opinion.

You "can't accept"? Huh?

Ian, where do you find these guys?

You are agreeing with an idiot posting asinine ******** BTW

And it makes you look stupid too.

So are you implying he's no longer the Sole Survivor?

This whole mess rests solely on the shoulders of his "agent", a guy who has made a living off of chasing ambulances... every move he has made is bush and he is clearly out of his league.

The old adage of a person who represents himself in a court proceeding has a fool for an attorney, take it one step further an NFL player who is represented by a JAG Atty. also has a fool for an agent. This guy does not seem to have a clue about how to play the game in the "Billionaire Boys Club".. trying to embarrass the Patriots by releasing snippets to the press is idiotic, and clearly shows he does not even begin to understand any of this.

The reason to do so is that they are sure that there won't be any extension. Similar to how the Chandler Jones draft picks directly made a huge impact on our season last year the picks we might get from Butler might do the same down the road.

The only difference is it was more predictable that someone like AZ would massively overpay for him.

Today should be interesting because a draft stacked with secondary talent should depress what NO will offer. Gotta love rookie deals.

MB blew by not taking $8 million last year. Had he taken that money he would have been way ahead after 2018 and still have been looking at another 4 year payday.

Now it's just doubling down.

It's a sad story often repeated. Get the local guy because you trust him. Half the time they find out they get a huge cut no matter what and end up screwing the player who trusted them, besides getting a bad deal for him.

There are only a few who know there way around this business and players need to research and hire legit.

Not sure if they do, but the NFLPA should endorse agents and financial advisors that have a proven track record of negotiating for their clients.. then the players may have less of a tendency to get ripped off.

Simpson is clearly out of his league..

Well, when they have chris carter telling players to get a fall guy, who knows?
