Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

The way this is escalating reminds me of the Atlanta Falcons / Mike Vick situation. The info leaked out slowly at first and over time it became a bigger and bigger story. This could end even worse than it already is.

More possible bad news: You could lose your job. Or you could come down with a serious illness. Please go away.

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

Hey, could you help explain the last part, - what your husband said? I don't really understand that.

Okay, the story says they want to make sure they get EVERYTHING we had in relation to illegal videotaping throughout the years (as others have explained, BB's misinterpretation of the rule means he has compiled a lot of info on other coaches through illegal means). It also says if we are found to have Xeroxed the material, we are in deep trouble. Now, that is obviously to prevent us saying here are your originals but who really cares because we have made a copy of everything. Therefore, we can continue to glean the benefit of whatever advantage this "coaching bible" gave us through the years.

Now, some here seem sure the investigation of the PAtriots is continuing and they are now taking all this stuff from us to look at old games, etc. I believe this is wrong. They would NOT care if we made copies if this was the case, because it doesn't matter if we have copies or not if all the league wants to do is use this info to nab us for previous games played. No, they want the the ORIGINALS and ANY COPIES to prevent us from enjoying the competitive advantage we may have been enjoying as a result of BB's misiniterpretation of the rule.

The story does NOT say we are subject to further sanctions UNLESS WE REFUSE TO COMPLY. Some of you seem to think they are going to take this stuff and look for more dirt to further penalize us but THIS STORY DOES NOT SAY THAT IN ANY WAY. The ONLY further penalties we can possibly incur will be if we refuse to turn in our stuff or we turn in the originals to the League having Xeroxed a set for ourselves to keep.

It's just great to come on to the forums on gameday and read this crap. Honest to goodness, what the hell give Goodell the right to demand all the patriots notes and videos. I'm sure that no one will ever see these except Goodell

I thought we were finally starting to get over this stupid situation and now the commish wants to go even further. WTF is going on here!

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

Agreed

What a shame it would be to lose this guy, but I am afraid he might just need to step aside.
step aside??? no way...If Kraft allows this to happen and not fight the league..he's going to look a lot worse....Time to get lawyers and fight Goodell in every way shape and form.

Thank you, for being a lawyer and for figuring this out !!

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

I innocently tuned in Sunday to watch some pre game analysis, wow what a mistake what was.
I thought all this would be behind us, nope obviously the NFL is becoming a joke and trying to kill the team and the coaching staff I absolutely love.
ESPN is a joke I vow to never watch it again even for other sports highlights I'll try to find a website that cares about SPORTS!
If that still exists in these times cause it seems they care more about what is going on outside of the field then on it.
It makes me sick how hard the NFL is trying to tear apart the best built franchise in professional sports!
How much can BB take?
He is in fact only human as you or I.
It's hard to imagine this not being the work of Napolian and possibly Jeff Fisher.
If Goodell is truly the idiot that I'm starting to think he is reading polls that BB"s punishment wasn't hard enough.
BB has his own rules and doesn't abide by the NFL.
Get the F out of here, guess I know now why the Branch tampering issue never resulted in any type of punishment for the Jesters.
Goodell is a closet Jet Fan!
I don't know how much longer I can watch them attempt to destroy my team!
This will have the be BB's best coaching job ever maybe anyone's ever If we win the Superbowl.
We have a lot of stand up guys on our team but also Moss who is known to let things affect him.
You don't think that this cheating bull crap isn't affecting the minds of some of these guys!
The sad thing is that I fully believe that if we don't win against the Chargers tonight, they'll start saying our winning ways are over the players hate the coach and so on.
Right now is the time for Kraft to make a public statement thanking and saying how he stands besides BB and knows his integrity and decency are forthright.
Is there anyone out there who doesn't believe this could affect our free agent signings in the future?
Teams can say ok well if you wanna be known as a cheater fine play for the Patriots.
I have to agree with some of the posters that said get the lawyers involved this has indeed turned into a witch hunt.
In actuality however it's turned into much more it's turned into an NFL that is tired of seeing teams who miss the playoff's continue to live in mediocrity while are Patriots have enjoyed multiple winning seasons including championships.
I'd hate to believe that Goodell is enjoying all this and has a secret agenda against us.
If that's how it truly is then I would love to see Kraft wreck the salary cap and we could enjoy dominance for years and years to come.
My main concern is BB obviously the most important figure on this team I'd argue he's more important than number 12.
Heres to hoping for the best although I have my doubts.

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

Mort is having a field day with this, but let's not lose our minds.

I'm a bit concerned here that what opened the door to this is the team's "interpretation."

If what Goddell is saying is that the interpretation is wrong, and that he wants to be sure the team doesn't have any advantage going forward due to tapes previously made under this "interpretation," that's not so crazy.

The fact that other teams probably have similar materials? Well, that sucks for us, but we're the ones that got caught. Such are the breaks. Plus, you can be sure there are a bunch of nervous coaches right now throwing lots of tapes into the fireplace.

Let's just relax about this and let it play out.

Re: As per mort

I don't know why Goodell wants to keep this alive. It should start to die down after tonight unless he keeps it alive.

He's keeping it alive because his former employer was the Jets. And since the videotaping "law" was in effect since last year, what relevance does asking for more tapes going back to 2000? Big conflict of interest.

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

I disagree (provided he isn't banned). If BB leaves now the implication is that he cheated to win the 3 SB games. Even if he lands another job somewhere else, the cheating taint will follow.

He needs to stay here and win SBs with all the scrutiny and without the extra help that everyone is screaming about.

Casserly was just on NFL Pregame and he said the Pats had permission for extra frequencies, and one was close to the QB receiver's frequency. The Pats said they needed it for their (Kraft Productions) all access show. There is a new memo going out saying that the rule that you are only allowed those provided by NFL will now be strictly enforced.

He also said the NFL has asked for Tapes and Notes and if they don't comply there will be severe penalties. I think they have already thought about the 'my dog ate it' excuse.

I think BB could be in danger of being banned by the NFL. There is so much hysteria, the perception (where the NFL Lives) of foul play among the public, and the specter of more info, more investigations and more leaks. It will be a never-ending scandal.

I also wonder if this is a 'plausible distraction' that the NFL is using to divert attention from something else that would cause a the public to throw a fit. I wonder if they are working behind the scenes to free/rehabilitate Vick.

Something stinks. Goodell may be pissed at the past leaks, but he let the media build this story up and he didn't get the players and coaches to stop piling on. Now they are leaking again.

I think the only way to do this would be to all go to some incinerator and watch BB destroy the stuff. Then its gone, and no one needs to go through it. Because once the NFL gets their hands on it, there will be more leaks, and twisted reporting, and the scandal keeps going like the Energizer Bunny. And each time it gets worse the calls for punishment get worse, and if Goodell's isn't strong enough to silence or satisfy people, then he has to keep going on another issue, and the whole cycle starts again.

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

Goodell must be pissed someone leaked the tape. He's kind of an egotistical godfather figure. This is getting out of control.

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

i think the fact that BB said words about his interpretation may have caused this from goodell.

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

I think Goodell should step aside, what a POS commissioner.

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

Mr. Kraft should deman and apology from Goodell. This is out of control and has affected the Patriots organization unfairly on so many fronts, especially on gameday. A lot of this could have been avoided if Goodell kept control over his leak-happy tools.

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

I said something about the Patriots "bible" of information on another website a few days back. Yes, the Patriots have a bible of information on other coaches (HC, DC, OC, QB coach, and others) but they have a bible of information on everything. Every player in the league has a book, and every player on a common foe has a giant book just about him, his tendencies and everything you could think of. The Patriots have simular books on their own players as well.

When Deion Branch went to the Seahawks Tom Brady sent over the Patriots book on him. This book was huge and even the Seahawks commented on how they had never seen anything like it before (so much information on one player) especially for a player on your own team. That's what BB's about, information.

It's pathetic for Mort or any other media personality to talk about the Patriots books of information as being something against the rules, or something that's in question. Having notes and knowing as much as you can possibly know about other teams and their coaches is perfectly within NFL rules. Having a written list of that coaches possible defensive signals as part of that book for instance isn't against the rules, and the commissioner couldn't prove that list of defensive signals was derived from the Patriots videotaping signals. The Patriots could easily say they gained that info with the aid of Binoculars.

Roger Goodell is a hack, and a moron. I said this about him before this even happened and slowly you'll all start to realize this. The man thinks he's Judge Dredd and the sooner the NFL gets rid of this sorry clown the better.

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

If I was the Pats, I would do 2 things. First, make sure you have everything duplicated. Next, I would load up EVERYTHING (film, notes, accounting information, old jock straps, etc, etc) into 2 or 3 Tractor Trailers and have them pull up to the NFL offices, blocking traffic and say that Goodell has to sign for it personally. OH, and tell the drivers they are NOT to help unload anything...

Personally...after inventoring every g*d d@mn item!

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

"perception" is what drives a TON of league revenue. Think about how important the casual fan is to the NFL (even the patriots)

die-hards on this board represent a relatively small portion of pats fans.

The pats simply cannot just refuse to cooperate. IMO, that is not a realistic option - that would be the equivalent of a nuclear bomb dropped on the credibility of the patriots

Yes, the Pats CAN and SHOULD refuse to cooperate.

The video taping rule came into affect THIS SEASON. There is no LONG STANDING rule as Goodell claimed in his BS press release about the punishment to BB and the Pats.

OH, and if perception is reality, then when you have coaches like Jimmy Johnson and Dan Reeves coming out and saying that taping and signal stealing is a COMMON PLACE in the league, you don't think that tarnishes the league?

83% of fans figure that ALL TEAMS use video-taping of their opponents coaches. So, if that is the perception, what did the Pats REALLY do wrong?

Well good luck to Goodell getting all our copies. In the digital age, I'm sure everything is archived whether via drives or DVD or something at this point.

If I were BB, I'd just give Goodell a copy of each Three Games to Glory DVD and tell him that's his best way of learning about the Belichick era Patriots.

Yes...That is awesome!!!

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

Yet another disgraceful act by the league office.

They've already shown they can't hold onto items in their possession without a leak, now they expect the Patriots to hand over more information? F**k them.
