Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possible

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

The tapes have already been shown, they show 3 Jets sending signals into the game, then shows scoreboard. It goes back and forth like that, from across the field !!

Bradshaw and most of the crew were like " Ya, so what, I was taught to do that "

The funny thing is it makes Mangini look like even MORE of a punk *****. The NY media might have a field day with this. "So Eric, you are sending out 3 signals at a time and then you cry that the pats are taping them? Are you just a sore loser or what"

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

From PFT

ANOTHER PATS CHEATING ALLEGATION

As Jay Glazer of FOX mentioned during FSN's Pro Football Preview, folks around the league are offering up all sorts of suspicions regarding the Patriots in the wake of last Sunday's spy scandal.

And Glazer mentions another tactic of which we previously hadn't heard -- putting a camera in the end zone to capture clear images of Peyton Manning's pre-snap hand signals.

We expect more of this stuff to come, since more and more people are talking. Eventually, someone with first-hand knowledge of what has gone on will come forward.

Damn that explains why we dominated the colts in the 2nd half of the playoffs last year.

One has to wonder how F&&&'n stupid Godell is. I am not one to really think like that either. I'm usually pretty... 'whatever' about this stuff. I am annoyed by it, but whatever.

THIS however is ******ed. He has now tainted the patriots forever and irredeemably. They have no recourse. no reputation. no hope. There is no end to this that leads to any sort of positive outcome for them.

He has basically ruined a franchise. Period.

They WILL (already have) lose fans. They ARE a laughing stock now. They are branded with the scarlet letter of cheaters, and now he is making sure it sticks for good. He is making sure BB is forever branded. Kraft. The Organization.

How does that reflect on the NFL?

If i'm the Patriots, I refuse to comply without a contract with Goddell that any disclosure of this information comes with a 1billion dollar penalty to the NFL.

AND I require that every team in the entire league be forced to submit theirs as well. If no one does, and they are ever found out, they receive double penalties

I would demand that.

Publically.
if I'm Bob Kraft, I no longer work with the NFL -- I publically humiliate them. I do everything through the media. I CC every memo to the AP.

BUT, i'm not.

None of that will happen.

The Patriots are done. They'll grovel. Lose another 5-10 draft pics, get some suspesion for BB, and probably 10-20M$ in fines.

I doubt i'll waste my time watching them if that happens.

Unless they're not true. But of course, that's not possible. This is just offensive journalism.

Well, that's just plain stupid.
Think about it.
The network camera is ALWAYS on Peyton pre-snap.
We ALL see his hand signals.
What kind of scandal is that? Geez, media, think about it before you call it a "scandal".

They can attempt to tarnish the "image" all they want. They can't take away the talent we have, they cant take away BB and the rest of the staff's amazing hard work, inteligence and attention to detail. The only thing they can affect of what we do on the field is further piss the players/coaches off, and we know how they respond to that type of stuff. The pride all these guys have is through the roof, and people are stepping on it and stepping hard. Brady, bruschi, vrabel, rodney, seymour, warren, wilfork, etc. etc... Watch the hell out.

No amount of talent is enough if the league is against you. None. The distractions the league can put on the staff, on the coaches, on the players. The Infestation of investigators in the offices. The constant barrage of legal calls. I'm sorry, but once the penalties start mounting, the allegations keep snowballing, and the setbacks begin...

I REALLY hope you're right. But, I don't think the league is going to allow that. Goddell is clearly an imbecile. He has no problem shooting himself and the league in the head in front of a camera and then trying to hide the corpse.

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

Great line from Bill Richardson:

"You know something is wrong when the New England Patriots face
stiffer penalties for spying on innocent Americans than **** Cheney and
George Bush."

-Gov. Bill Richardson

Patriots don't succumb to distractions easily. The more you bug them about stuff the more motivation they get to shut you the f up. All this crap will have no effect on what happens on the field. Unless the pats have to give up all tape and notes sinec 2000, then they have almost nothing to prepare with week to week

They don't have anything yet other than the stupid Estrella tape.
If I'm the Patriots hierarchy they don't get squat now after the league immediately allowed it to be broadcast to the world.

They have no choice. They're going to have to give all that up. The commissioner's office has the authority to force that or penalize them so badly a victory would be Pyhrric.

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

I'm sure the Pats have already removed any incriminating video evidence that there might have been. Ditto the rest of the league.

There is a lot of confused talk here today...some people seem to think that Goodell has asked the Patriots to hand over all their notes, video, stale coffee, etc, while keeping nothing. Start from scratch. Erase all hard drives, give BB amnesia, etc. They get to keep nothing but their jock straps. This is obviously stupid...the Mortensen remark was clearly aimed ONLY at the sideline taping...

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has ordered the New England Patriots to turn over all videotape, files and notes relating to all their activity that resulted in the disciplinary action of coach Bill Belichick and the franchise, according to sources familiar with the details of Goodell's private communication with the team, ESPN's Chris Mortensen has learned.

Now that's both wide-ranging and rather vague.

(A) I can only hope Goodell was, ahem, more specific than that in talking to the Pats.
(B) I suspect lawyers will be involved, regardless of whether this goes to court or not.
(C) How will we know if they've complied? [How do we know, for that matter, that they haven't already complied?]
(D) If the video corresponds to nothing more than what we've seen from Estrella, I find it hard to believe that more sanctions will result. Not unless Goodell really wants to bite one of the hands that feeds him.

And, of course:

(E) Either Kraft authorized the leak of the tape, or the league offices have some serious issues with security.

Not if Kraft decides to go the Al Davis route and tie the NFL up in court for 5 years.

Is there a link for that?

The part you bolded is exactly what some of us here have been saying...only material related to sideline taping. Not "all their notes".

The league offices have issues with security when it suits their purpose.

The intent is simple, destroy BB and drive him out of the NFL.

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

Anyone else find it interesting that Mike Reiss hasn't commented on this? I don't know if Tomase has put anything up.
